  • Patent number: 9594510
Abstract: A JBOD subsystem for providing storage to a host entity. The JBOD subsystem contains at least one external JBOD emulation controller coupled to the host entity for emulating IO operations in response to the IO requests and a set of at least one physical storage device coupled to the JBOD emulation controller for providing storage to the host entity through the JBOD emulation controller. The JBOD emulation controller defines at least one logical media unit (LMU) consisting of sections of the set of physical storage device (PSD) and communicates with the PSD through a point-to-point serial-signal interconnect. As an example, the point-to-point serial-signal interconnect can be a Serial ATA IO device interconnect.

  • Patent number: 8427941
Abstract: Disclosed is a redundant storage virtualization subsystem (SVS) having branching functionality. The SVS comprises a first and a second storage virtualization controller (SVC) and a physical storage device (PSD) array. A first and a second data path are provided between the first SVC and the PSD array passing through a first and a second signal integrity enhancing device (SIED), respectively, and configured as a first pair of redundant data paths. A third and a fourth data path are provided between the second SVC and the PSD array passing through the second and the first SIED, respectively, and configured as a second pair of redundant data paths. In view of the PSD array, the first and fourth data paths form a third redundant data path pair for a PSD, and the third and second data paths form a fourth redundant data path pair for a PSD.

  • Patent number: 8352649
Abstract: Disclosed is a storage virtualization subsystem (SVS) architecture comprising a plurality of SVSs, each SVS comprising at least one storage virtualization controller (SVC), and, in some cases, a physical storage disk (PSD) array attached to the SVC. A first and a second data access path is configured passing through the SVSs to form the SVS architecture such that when one path is failed, the other can be taken as a substitution. The SVSs in the first path are connected in a first sequence and the SVSs in the second path are connected in a second sequence different from the first one. In another embodiment, each SVS comprises a plurality of redundantly-configured SVCs rather than one SVC. The first path is formed passing through a first set of SVCs and the second path is formed passing through a different second set of SVCs.

  • Patent number: 6614557
Abstract: An image transformation method to reduce the number of the gray levels is disclosed. Error diffusion, error bias and a programmable integer C are utilized. For the focus pixel, the value Gi of the original gray scale is read. The related errors Ej previously obtained from some chosen pixels are loaded in. The respective corresponding weighting coefficient Wj for each errors Ej are determined. Then, a resultant gray value Ri of the focus pixel is calculated by Ri=Gi+&Sgr;Wj(Ej−C), wherein C is a programmable integer. Thereafter, the gray value Ri is dividing into most significant part Mi and least significant part Li, wherein Mi is a K-bit integer, Li is an (N−K)-bit integer, Mi×2N−K+Li=Ri, and −2N−K/2≦Li<2N−K/2. The error Ei of the focus pixel is stored as Li plus an error bias D of 2N−K/2. Finally, the focus pixel is displayed using Mi as the degraded target gray value.

  • Patent number: 5916788
Abstract: A genetic recombination laser apparatus includes an optical system having a semiconductor laser medium for generating a semiconductor laser light, an Nd:YAG crystal, an LBO and .beta.-BBOs for reducing the wavelength of the laser light, an acoustic optical device and a lens for converging the laser light with a reduced wavelength;. A stage for positioning the focus of the laser light converged by the lens at any arbitrary location on a specimen is provided. The energy of the laser light converged on the specimen is set at a value greater than the bonding energy of the substance composing the wall of the somatic cell. Preferably, the semiconductor laser light is converted into the fifth harmonic of an Nd:YAG laser light having a wavelength of 213 nm and a second harmonic with a wavelength of 532 nm generated in the conversion process is used as for positioning the focus of the laser light converged by the lens on the specimen.

  • Patent number: 5396584
Abstract: Multi-bit image edge enhancement method and apparatus wherein a group of gradient mask matrices are applied to a "current matrix", wherein a TBAP (To Be Adjusted Pixel) is surrounded by neighboring pixels, to determine if the TBAP is at a location where a change of brightness occurs. From this matrix operation, a conclusion is derived as to the existence or non-existence of an edge and the direction of the brightness change. The current matrix and a predetermined number of previously evaluated and yet to be evaluated pixels are then compared to a set of reference bit patterns which depict possible segment changes to be corrected. If the result indicates that the TBAP is on an edge of a changing edge segment, a corresponding code will be generated to modify the TBAP to enhance the smoothness of a segment transition.
