The method includes: in response to an instruction for displaying a message received during a video call, determining a window type of the video call displayed on a television screen interface; determining whether a first window of the video call shields a predetermined message display position during display of the first window, based on the window type; in response to the first window shields the predetermined message display position during display, determining a current message display position that is not shielded by the first window on the television screen interface; and displaying a message alert box corresponding to the instruction at the current message display position, and the message alert box is not shielded by the first window.
