    Abstract: The present invention relates to being able to adjust a time period of a time slot in a communication channel, depending on the information being sent in the time slot. In one embodiment of the present invention, a process and system for automatically adjusting a time period of a time slot in a communication channel is presented. The communication channel is monitored. A determination is made to see whether data are being transmitted in a time slot in the communication channel. The time slot is adjusted to a first time period if data are being transmitted in the time slot. The time slot is adjusted to a second time period if data are not being transmitted in the time slot.

In one embodiment, a method is presented for providing an one-way communication among a selected group of telephones in a KUS-less telephone system having a plurality of telephones. A group number is assigned to each of the plurality of telephones in the system. A group number is selected at a paging telephone selected from the plurality of telephones. A one-way voice communication is set up automatically through a voice channel of the telephone system to a group of telephones having the selected group number.

    Abstract: A method and system for automatically detecting that a telephone port is being used and securing the telephone line associating with the telephone port, is presented. In one embodiment, a method and system is described for automatically securing a telephone line in a telephone system having more than one telephone lines. Usage of a device connected to the telephone line is first detected. Telephones in the system are notified via a data packet to secure the telephone line. In response to the data packet, the telephones prevent a user from accessing the telephone line.

    Abstract: A telephone line measurement circuit is disclosed for detecting a variation of a characteristic between a first and a second leads of a telephone line. The circuit comprises a first circuit having a first and a second inputs and an output. The circuit also has a second circuit having a first and a second inputs and an output. The first input of the first circuit and the second input of the second circuit are coupled to the first lead of the telephone line and the second input of the first circuit and the first input of the second circuit are coupled to the second lead of the telephone line. The outputs of the first and the second circuits are then coupled together to provide an output for the measurement circuit.
