    Abstract: Populations of benefit agent delivery particles are disclosed, the particles having a core and a shell encapsulating the core, the shell comprising certain multifunctional (meth)acrylate-based polymers, along with processes for making and uses of such compositions. The delivery particle has a core to polymer wall ratio by weight from about 96:4 to about 99.5 to 0.5 and a volume-weighted particle size from about 30 to about 50 microns. The compositions deliver core content with a desired delivery profile, such as fragrance delivery at desired touchpoints with higher efficiency. The delivery particle has high pay load, yet exhibits decreased benefit agent leakage, and provides a desired delivery profile.

The process comprises forming a water phase comprising hydrolyzing chitosan in an acidic medium at a pH of 6.5 or less for an extended period and combining with a polyisocyanate. The reaction product of the hydrolyzed chitosan and polyisocyanate yields a microcapsule having improved release characteristics, with enhanced degradation characteristics in OECD test method 301B.
