  • Patent number: 11603178
Abstract: A method and a system for controlling a propulsive power output applied to a propeller shaft of a ship. The ship includes the propeller shaft and a propulsive power source connected to the propeller shaft. A control signal for producing with the propulsive power source a propulsive power is varied within an interval limited by an upper control limit value and a lower control limit value. If a current value of an operational parameter of the ship reaches a first parameter limit value, the upper control limit value is reduced. Thus, the propulsive power source may be prevented from applying a too high power output to the propeller shaft, which would be unfavourable for the ship.

  • Patent number: 11584493
Abstract: A method and a system for controlling a propulsive power output applied to a propeller shaft of a ship. If a current value of a propulsive power of a propulsive power source equals or falls below a lower power limit value, and/or if a current value of an operational parameter reaches a first/lower parameter limit value, a control unit is configured to: increase a power output of an internal combustion engine of the propulsive power source. Thus, operation of the engine below a lower power limit is avoided.

  • Patent number: 11383811
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for controlling the propulsion of a ship (10). The ship (10) comprises an engine (5) and a controllable pitch propeller (7), wherein torque and engine speed are adjusted to correspond to an output set point value. The adjustment is such that the ship (10) is operated in an operating condition with an engine speed of the engine (5) and a propeller pitch of the controllable pitch propeller (7) such that the fuel consumption of the ship (10) is brought and/or held within a desired fuel consumption range. The method comprises determining a top pressure value indicative of a top pressure in at least one cylinder (9) and reducing the torque of the engine (5) upon detection that the lop pressure value exceeds a top pressure threshold value.

The ship (10) comprises an engine (5) and a controllable pitch propeller (7), wherein torque and engine speed are adjusted to correspond to an output set point value. The adjustment is such that said ship (10) is operated in an operating condition with an engine speed of said engine (5) and a propeller pitch of said controllable pitch propeller (7) such that the fuel consumption of said ship (10) is brought and/or held within a desired fuel consumption range. The method comprises: —determining a NOx value indicative of a NOx content in the exhaust gas produced by said engine (5) and —reducing the torque of said engine (5) upon detection that the NOx value exceeds a NOx threshold value.

  • Publication number: 20180148034
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling a propulsion effect of a ship in order to enable efficient fuel consumption. The method includes reading a set point value for speed from a first input device, reading a set point value for fuel consumption from a second input device, and controlling the propulsion effect to a set point value resulting in the lowest fuel consumption.
