Patent number: 8258950Abstract: An apparatus includes a carrier, and a system that is responsive to wireless signals transmitted by tags on items carried by the carrier for maintaining a local inventory of items carried by the carrier. A different apparatus involves a carrier having a container with an interior, a sensor for detecting a condition externally of the container that can be related to an environment within the container, and a system that handles information from the sensor in a manner facilitating an evaluation of the likelihood that a problem exists within the container. Another apparatus involves a carrier for a plurality of items, and a system that is responsive to wireless signals received from a remote location for determining a current location of the carrier and for evaluating whether the carrier is proceeding along an intended route.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2005Date of Patent: September 4, 2012Assignee: Savi Technology, Inc.Inventors: Ravindra U. Patent number: 8116454Abstract: One aspect involves receiving by a tag of wireless communications that utilize a first security provision, and wireless communications that utilize a second security provision different from the first security provision. A different aspect involves receiving by an entity of an authentication request that is based on a first digital certificate unknown to the entity, and determining by the entity, without external authentication of the first digital certificate, whether the first digital certificate is in a trust relationship with a second digital certificate that is different from the first digital certificate and that is known to the entity.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2007Date of Patent: February 14, 2012Assignee: Savi Technology, Inc.Inventors: Igor V. Patent number: 6426973Abstract: This invention reformulates the MMSE criterion to apply to systems in which the desired data to be tracked is the ratio of the data appearing in successive observation intervals. The resulting differential MMSE criterion leads to a number of novel algorithms for adaptive implementation of the MMSE receiver. Applications include equalization for single user systems, and multiuser detection, or interference suppression, for direct sequence CDMA with short spreading sequences (i.e., the period of the spreading sequence equals the symbol interval). The invention also provides blind (i.e., without the requirement of a training symbol sequence for the user of interest) equalization and beamforming (using a receive antenna array) for direct sequence CDMA systems with long spreading sequences (i.e., systems in which the spreading sequences are aperiodic, or have period much larger than the symbol interval). The invention enables recovery of the desired symbol sequence up to an unknown phase.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1999Date of Patent: July 30, 2002Assignee: The Board of Trustees of the University of IllinoisInventors: Upamanyu Madhow, Liping Julia Zhu, Luis Galup
