  • Patent number: 7594434
Abstract: A downhole tool system includes a downhole tool operably positionable within a wellbore and a sensor positioned within the downhole tool. The sensor has a first mode and a second mode. In the first mode, the sensor is responsive to RF interrogation. In the second mode, the sensor is not responsive to RF interrogation. The sensor is operable to transition from the first mode to the second mode upon the occurrence of a predetermined level of erosion of the downhole tool proximate the sensor. A detector is operably positionable relative to the downhole tool and in communicative proximity to the sensor. The detector interrogates the sensor to determine whether the predetermined level of erosion has occurred.

  • Publication number: 20070295506
Abstract: An orbital downhole separator for separating well fluids into constituents of different specific gravities. Specifically, it is designed to separate water from oil or gas. The apparatus comprises a housing with a rotating member therein driven by a motor in the housing. Well fluid flows through the rotating member and is subjected to centrifugal force to separate the components. A flow conditioner is used to facilitate separation. The invention includes several different versions of the flow conditioner including an impeller, a stator and controllers for controlling the speed of the motor in response to signals related to the amount of petroleum in the water.

  • Patent number: 7272884
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an inductor fabricated above a substrate surface comprising a first set of inductors in a lower dielectric layer, a second set of inductors in an upper dielectric layer, and interconnects extending between the first and second sets of conductors to form a single continuous helical current path that turns around a central region. Since each turn of the inductor includes only one leg close to the substrate, the parasitic capacitance between the inductor and the substrate can be reduced and there is more free space in the upper and lower layers for increasing the width of the conductors and thereby reducing the series resistance of the inductor. Meanwhile, since the magnetic field generated by the inductor is substantially confined in a closed tube defined by its turns, there is less interference between the inductor and its neighboring components on the same and/or surrounding substrates.

  • Publication number: 20060213671
Abstract: An erosion resistant crossover which may be used in fracturing and/or gravel packing. In one aspect, a fluid delivery system for use in a subterranean well may comprise a fluid discharge apparatus including a flow passage, at least one discharge opening for discharging fluid from the flow passage to an exterior of the apparatus, and a flow diversion device operative to more evenly distribute flow through the opening by diverting fluid flow through the opening in a more upstream direction relative to fluid flow through the passage.

  • Patent number: 7067842
Abstract: The present invention includes a method and apparatus for measuring a parasitic inductance associated with a portion of an integrated circuit fabricated on a semiconductor substrate. A test chip for measuring the parasitic inductance is fabricated together with the integrated circuit on the semiconductor substrate. The test chip includes an LC oscillator circuit having at least one substructure that resembles the portion of the integrated circuit and at least one varactor having a capacitance adjustable by a control voltage. When the LC oscillator circuit is connected to the control voltage source and the control voltage is at a certain level, an oscillation is generated in the LC oscillator and the frequency of oscillation can be used to determine the parasitic inductance associated with the portion of the integrated circuit.

  • Publication number: 20050248334
Abstract: A system and method for monitoring erosion include a sensor (204) that is embedded in a substrate (202) having a first surface (206) that is subject to erosion and a second surface (208). The sensor (204) has a first mode in which the sensor (204) is responsive to RF interrogation (216) from a detector (212) and a second mode in which the sensor (204) is non-responsive to the RF interrogation. The sensor (204) transitions from the first mode to the second mode in response to being disabled due to contact with the erosive agent causing the erosion of the first surface (206). When the sensor (204) has transitioned to the second mode, this indicates that a predetermined level of erosion of the first surface (206) has occurred.
