Abstract: Disclosed is a method for extracting high acyl gellan from the fermentation broth containing gellan gum with a low production cost and high quality of products, comprising the following steps: (1) Treatment of the fermentation broth with an enzyme; (2) flocculation of the treated fermentation broth with acid; (3) wash of the fiber-like material; and (4) drying and milling.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a post extraction process for preparing low acyl gellan, comprising the steps: deacylation treatment of gellan gum-containing fermentation broth, enzyme treatment, flocculation of low acyl gellan gum with divalent or polyvalent metal cations, clarification treatment of gellan gum solution, dehydration treatment of gellan gum solution, removal of divalent or polyvalent cations and decoloration, and drying and milling. Preferably, the process comprises the step of formulating a proper amount of chelating agent/acid system before the drying and milling step to chelate the added additional divalent cations added during the use of gellan gum, and at the same time to keep the pH value in a relatively stable condition. The present invention also provides the various low acyl gellan gums prepared by the above methods. The product has the following characteristics: a good appearance, a high transmittancy, and high gel strength.

Abstract: An object storage device that includes a base and a deformable body having a bottom surface fixed to the base is provided. The body also includes body end surfaces, a longitudinal axis, a transverse axis extending between the body end surfaces, and a plurality of fingers. Each of the fingers includes an upper portion opposite the bottom surface, the upper portion including at least one planar diagonally extending surface configured to guide an object. Each of the fingers also includes finger side surfaces, and the finger side surfaces of adjacent fingers are frictionally engaged. With this construction, the object storage device may hold an object in place by friction forces due to contact between the sides of the object and the finger side surfaces. As such, the possibility of piercing the device with a sharp part of an object may be reduced.
