  • Patent number: 9110867
Abstract: An embodiment of the invention is directed to a method associated with a node comprising a hypervisor and guest VMs, each guest VM being managed by the hypervisor and disposed to run applications, the node being joined with other nodes to form an HA cluster. The method includes establishing an internal bidirectional communication channel between each guest VM and the hypervisor, and further includes sending commands and responses thereto through the channel, wherein respective commands manage a specified application running on the given guest VM. The messages are selectively monitored, to detect a failure condition associated with the specified application running on the given guest VM. Responsive to detecting a failure condition, action is taken to correct the failure condition, wherein the action includes sending at least one command through the internal channel from the hypervisor to the given guest VM.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 8204719
Abstract: Techniques for constructing and using models in accordance with service level management are disclosed. In one aspect of the invention, a technique for constructing a model (e.g., a system model) representative of a resource for use in managing a service associated with the resource, comprises the following steps/operations. A set of resource metrics is obtained in accordance with a resource abstract model (RAM) associated with the resource. Then, a model representative of the resource is constructed based on at least a portion of the set of resource metrics obtained from the resource abstract model.

  • Publication number: 20090287943
Abstract: Mapping power domains in a data center, the data center including one or more power consuming computing devices, the computing devices managed by a management module, each power domain in the data center including one or more power service modules located in an electrical path connecting one or more of the computing devices to a power source, each power service module associated with a power line communications controller, where the mapping includes establishing a unique domain identification for each electrical path connecting one or more of the computing devices to a power source; receiving, by the management module from the computing devices, the unique domain identifications; and maintaining, by the management module, a map associating the unique domain identifications with identifications of the computing devices.

  • Patent number: 7565655
Abstract: Techniques are provided for generically controlling one or more resources associated with at least one computing system. In one aspect of the invention, the technique comprises evaluating one or more performance metrics associated with the one or more resources given one or more configurations of the one or more resources. The technique then causes a change in the one or more configurations of the one or more resources based on the performance metric evaluating step. The one or more performance metrics and the one or more configurations are expressed in generic formats.
