  • Patent number: 4535565
Abstract: A one-piece, integrally formed clip is provided for securing an elongate compressible gasket of given cross-sectional configuration to a panel having a clip-receiving aperture of predetermined peripheral dimensions. The clip comprises a bight portion dimensioned for receiving the gasket therewithin, a pair of resilient leg portions integrally joining the bight portion and normally extending outwardly therefrom in substantially parallel, spaced apart relation. The legs respectively terminate in substantially similar, oppositely outwardly diverging resilient barb portions. These barb portions diverge in the direction of the bight portion for resisting removal with respect to the through panel aperture. Additionally, the aperture defines a complimentary inner peripheral surface for non-removably receiving the clip. This surface is generally I-shaped, the central portion of the "I" being a lesser cross-sectional dimension than the width of the clip legs to prevent respective inward movement of the clip legs.

  • Patent number: 4408939
Abstract: A composite fastener for use in attaching a splash guard to a free edge of a flange in a vehicle wheel well and including a sheet metal S-clip, a washer head screw retained against rotation in the clip so that the shank projects from one side of the S-clip and a nut on the outer end of the screw shank. The space between the intermediate leg and the outer leg of the S-clip opposite the screw is adapted to receive the free edge of the flange therein. The screw shank penetrates a portion of the splash guard which is retained by the nut.

  • Patent number: 4103854
Abstract: A one-piece plastic fastener for supporting secondary members relative to a thin panel in a shouldered, non-circular aperture. The fastener provides a wide distribution of stress loading by a large hook-like prong which is rotated into contact with the backside of the panel by telescoping it through the aperture until the head covers the aperture. A resilient non-loadbearing arm extends from the prong in a curved or angular relationship for engagement with two adjacent edges of the non-circular aperture to permanently prevent unintentional retrograde motion of the fastener. The fastener is non-removeable due to the locking of the notch in the arm with the side edge of the non-circular aperture.

  • Patent number: 4083289
Abstract: A plastic fastener, for example, a one-piece plastic rivet, having a head and a bifurcated oval shank and expander means capable of axial movement within a tapered bore traversing the head and shank. Each portion of the shank has a longitudinally disposed radial relief means that provides a buckle or hinge section having generally uniform radial thickness which opens into the tapered bore to provide pairs of edges falling on the frusto-conical surface of the bore which, when the edges are contacted by the expander means, will cause the shank portions to be moved radially and to be expanded circumferentially as well.

  • Patent number: 4082030
Abstract: A one-piece plastic screw grommet for use in a polygonally apertured panel. The shank of the grommet is complimentary to the aperture with which it is used and includes a plurality of posts positioned in the corners of the aperture with the posts carrying web-like spring members that support and co-act with legs positioned medially between adjacent posts. Each leg includes a transversely concave inner surface forming a segment of the bore with the concave surface falling substantially on the pitch diameter of the screw with which it is associated. The posts, legs, and spring members are supported at opposite ends by the head and a free end element, with the end element closing the bore and the head sealing against the panel.
