  • Patent number: 4911383
Abstract: The invention provides a kite, particularly an article dropping kite, consisting of a kite body, which usually is provided with a downwardly-extending kite keel to which is connected the kite string. The kite is provided with an article holding and releasing means consisting of a flexible-walled pocket, usually forwardly-opening, which is closed by the tension on the kite string to hold the article in the pocket during launch and flying. Upon release of the tension the pocket tends to open, assisted by entry of air into the pocket by the kite's forward motion, and the kite stalls and tips forward under the forward location of the article until the article is released. Alternatively, or in addition the holding and release means are flexible parallel straps cooperating with the keel, or a separate pocket. A weight is provided at the point of attachment of the kite string to the body and cooperates with the pocket to produce a swooping, gliding decending motion of the kite upon release of the tension.

  • Patent number: 4488374
Abstract: A new article dropping tow consists of a suitably buoyant body or the like, such as a gas-filled balloon, carrying one or more releasable articles, such as a glider, a toy parachutist or a bomb, retained on the buoyant body by, for example a hook on one engaged in an opening in the other, arranged to release automatically when the upwardly-moving body suddenly changes its vertical movement, e.g. by bumping against an overhead surface, such as the ceiling of a room in which the toy is released, or by reaching the end of its tether string, or by the operator jerking on the string. The release is then effected by the movement of the body which disengages the article and allows it to drop.

  • Patent number: 4369939
Abstract: A parachute dropping kite comprises at least one holding means, e.g. a pocket, preferably located on a keel guide of the kite. The, or each, pocket is to releasably secure a parachute unit associated with the kite and is open upwardly and is generally aligned with a kite string extending between an operator and the flying kite. A jerk on the kite string will tend to lower the flying kite slightly allowing the parachute unit or units to exit from the pocket by inertial force.

  • Patent number: 4183481
Abstract: A parachute dropping kite comprising a parachute unit pocketed or strapped to the underside of the covering of the kite. The strap or pocket is provided with appropriate closure means removably and frictionally associated therewith. A closure means string has one portion thereof secured to the closure means and another portion thereof secured to the kite string at a position proximal to but spaced from the kite at a length such that the closure means string is slack when the closure means is associated with the parachute holding means during flight of the kite. The device is further provided with a kite string length changing means which is associated with and actuable by tugging on the kite string, and located at the position on the kite string where the closure means string is secured to the kite string or between that position and the kite.
