Patent number: 5730623Abstract: A triax cable contact provides improved high frequency performance by terminating the outer screen of the cable to an outer contact arranged to engage a ground clip in the connector and thereby ground the outer screen to the shell of the connector rather than directly to a corresponding outer contact of a mating triax contact. This permits the distance between the inner and intermediate contacts to be increased without increasing the outer diameter of the contact.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1995Date of Patent: March 24, 1998Assignee: Amphenol CorporationInventors: Leonard A. Krantz, Lloyd G. Ratchford

Patent number: 4781622Abstract: A triaxial contact assembly for use with a ground plane electrical connector includes an outer conductor which is grounded to the ground plane of the connector. The intermediate and inner contacts of the triaxial contact assembly have printed circuit board tails on their ends. The arrangement is such that bonding of the insulators to the contacts is eliminated via a cap which holds all internal contact assembly components in place. The cap, in turn, is held in place by crimping the outer contact.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1987Date of Patent: November 1, 1988Assignee: Amphenol CorporationInventors: Lloyd G. Ratchford, Valentine J. Hemmer, Alan L. Davis

Patent number: 4728301Abstract: A pin/socket, pin/pin triaxial interface contact assembly is disclosed which features a minimum number of contacts and insulators which are metal staked to form a contact assembly for mating with concentric twinaxial or triaxial contacts. The assembly is cost effective and withstands significantly high temperatures without degrading the assembly or the positioning of the several components thereof as would otherwise be the case.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1987Date of Patent: March 1, 1988Assignee: Amphenol CorporationInventors: Valentine J. Hemmer, Lloyd G. Ratchford

Patent number: 4695109Abstract: A quick release, two part electrical connector assembly immediately responsive to an external axial release force transmitted thereto without interfering with manual uncoupling rotation seats the foot (58) from each of three locking fingers (56) against a bayonet pin (24) from the mated receptacle, each finger extending longitudinally from a locking ring (50) on the plug and adapted to be pulled outwardly of a coupling ring (30) as a result of the bayonet pins transmitting releasing forces to the feet. The locking ring is completely enclosed within the coupling ring and a coil spring (46) is disposed in an annular cavity (70) formed between the rings to resist forward axial movement of the locking ring relative to the plug part. A waved washer (28) seats against the plug flange (14) to bias the locking ring axially rearward.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1986Date of Patent: September 22, 1987Assignee: Allied CorporationInventor: Lloyd G. Ratchford

Patent number: 4457469Abstract: A coupling nut (300) comprises inner and outer sleeves (310, 410) mounted for corotation about a connector shell (100) and about one another for movement between locked and unlocked positions and means (422) for normally biasing the sleeves into the locked position, the connector shell having a plurality of ratchet teeth (138) formed on an outer periphery thereof, the coupling nut including a plurality of spring beams (316) adapted to have a medial tooth (318) thereof normally biased from engagement with the ratchet teeth in the unlocked position and driven into engagement with the ratchet teeth in the locked position by drive pins (322) disposed within openings (312) on inner sleeve (310), outer sleeve (410) having an inner surface (406) for driving the drive pin (322) and spring beam (316) into the locked relationship and angularly spaced undercuts (408A, 408B) for receiving drive pin (322) when actuating sleeve is turned to the unlocked position.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1982Date of Patent: July 3, 1984Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventor: Lloyd G. Ratchford

Patent number: 4447103Abstract: Receptacle connector (10) secured by its flange (18) to panel (30) has a mating portion (14) extending forwardly from the panel for mating with mating portion (24) of plug connector (20) having a coupling member (40) rotatably mounted thereabout and adapted to draw the connectors together, an otherwise exposed region (50) about the mated connection being protected by a cup-shaped moisture seal (60) comprising a tubular body (62) sized to snugly fit about an exterior marginal annulus (41) of the coupling member and an annular flange (64) sized to fit about receptacle mating portion (14). Medial of annular flange (64) is a stiffening plate (70). An array of apertures of size sufficient to receive fasteners (68) pass through receptacle flange (18), annular flange (64), plate (70) and panel (30) annular flange (64) against flange (18) and panel (30) and moisture sealing thereabout.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1981Date of Patent: May 8, 1984Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventors: Dee A. Werth, Lloyd G. Ratchford

Patent number: 4433889Abstract: Mating forward ends (14, 24) of a receptacle connector (10) mounted in a panel (18) and plug connector (20) carrying a coupling member (30, 34, 40) are protected by a moisture seal (60) when interconnected. The moisture seal comprises a tubular body portion (64) which squeezes about the coupling member and a cup portion (66) which collapsibly compresses about the panel mounted connector, tubular body (64) including an annular shoulder (62) sized to be received in an annular cavity (50) around a sleeve (40) of the coupling member. The cup (64) comprises a frust-conical skirt (68), an annular collar (67) connecting the skirt to the body (64) and an annular foot (69) for sealing about the panel (18), reduced thicknesses (71, 73, 74) of tubular body portion (64) and annular collar (67) allowing cup portion (64) to collapse rearwardly relative to the coupling member when the annular foot (69) is forced against the panel (18).Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1981Date of Patent: February 28, 1984Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventors: Lloyd G. Ratchford, Dee A. Werth, Vincent A. Luca, Jr., Alan L. Schildkraut

Patent number: 4421373Abstract: An electrical connector (20) having disposed around a rearward end portion (25) thereof a plurality of springs (36) in their respective spring cavities (39) and including an operating sleeve (40) circumposed therearound for movement rearwardly to a releasing position, a sealing adaptor (50) mounted to the connector and having a radial collar (56) positioned rearwardly of the cavities and a moisture seal (60) carried by the sleeve and having an inner portion (80) contacting the collar thereby moisture sealing a region around the springs and preventing ice formation in the cavities. The seal is generally V-shaped, with an outer portion (62) being carried in an annular recess (48) of sleeve (40).Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1981Date of Patent: December 20, 1983Assignee: The Bendix CorporationInventors: Lloyd G. Ratchford, Dee A. Werth
