  • Patent number: 6821196
Abstract: A molded tooth design of generally pyramidal form made of various hard grit materials for use on a grinding wheel for grinding non-metal materials. The tooth structure generally includes a raked face having a neutral to positive rake angle that terminates to a sharp point. The tooth structure also includes on the raked face edge portions below the point extending from both sides thereof having a predetermined clearance angle to increase penetration and reduce friction of the tooth during the grinding process. The tooth structure may also include at a top end of the rake face a truncated clearance surface which will produce a wider cutting edge that is flat, for use in attacking the work surface of the work piece being ground. The rake face of the tooth generally may also be formed to have positive rake in the truncated surface.

  • Publication number: 20020123302
Abstract: A cutting and grinding wheel made of a circular disk having a center, two opposing surfaces, an outer circumference, and a center defining a bore hole. A plurality of teeth are evenly distributed around the disk's outer circumference, with each tooth having an apex and a pair of opposing sidewalls generally parallel to the disk opposing surfaces. The teeth formed in a generally sinusoidal pattern, and each adjacent pair of teeth are separated by a gullet. An abrasive coating is disposed to be concentrated upon the wheel teeth apexes and opposing teeth sidewalls.

  • Patent number: 5453041
Abstract: A cutting tool has cutting teeth attached to a base surface of the cutting tool. Each tooth is provided with a generally vertical leading face that is arranged at an angle relative to a forward stroke direction of the cutting tool, and a corresponding, similarly shaped trailing face relative to said forward stroke direction. Extending between the leading face and the trailing face is at least one cutting surface perpendicular to the leading face. The cutting surface has an elongated, generally linear crest having a length that extends between the leading and trailing faces and is situated at a distance from the base surface. Each leading face forms a piercing corner with the crest. The teeth of the cutting tool are arranged in a plurality of rows, with each row being oriented generally perpendicularly to the forward stroke direction. Each leading face of each tooth of at least one row is oriented at an angle relative to the forward stroke direction.

  • Patent number: 4916869
Abstract: A bonded abrasive grit structure which may be attached to a tool surface and a method for making a grit structure and tool therefrom. The grit structure includes a plurality of peaks which have a grit particle at the apex and are substantially the same height such that the apexes collectively define a plane. A setting matrix of preferably tungsten carbide particulate matter of high melting point surrounds the grit particle. A resin binder is dispersed throughout the structure. The binder is drivable from the structure at a first temperature. The structure is brazeable to a tool surface by infiltration of a brazing material therethrough at a second higher temperature.

  • Patent number: 4906145
Abstract: An improved machining device is disclosed which is particularly well suited for machining of a wide variety of materials and in particular elastomeric materials such as for example synthetic rubber employed in manufacture of motor vehicle tires. The machining device comprises a rotatable wheel having secured around the periphery in spaced relationship a plurality of replaceable cutting inserts each of which incorporates piercing corner portions having an acute included angle followed by a sharp linear edge portion operable to produce a clean severing action which results in a finely textured machined surface. Each of the inserts also incorporates a securing arrangement which allows the cutter inserts to be quickly and easily secured to the wheel and also accurately locates the cutting edges thereof along a common circle concentric with the axis of rotation of the wheel. Various arrangements are also disclosed for preventing rotational movement of the cutter insert during use thereof.
