  • Patent number: 9407789
Abstract: A method to selectively compress an image in a printing process comprises the steps of providing a first representation of an image to be printed on a printer to a printing pipeline, processing the first representation in the printing pipeline to derive a second representation of the image, wherein the second representation comprises physical printing parameters adapted to the image and the printer, and compressing the second representation to obtain a compressed third representation of the image. The third representation of the image is again supplied to the printing pipeline, and is processed in the printing pipeline to derive a fourth representation of the image. The fourth representation of the image is provided to a printhead of the printer for printing.

  • Patent number: 9329826
Abstract: A method of increasing data flow to a printing device includes, with a first raster image processor, converting a document into a first bitmap having a first dot density and representing a black color plane of the document; with a second raster image processor, converting the document into a second bitmap at a second dot density that is a relatively lower dot density than that of the first bitmap, the second bitmap representing other color planes of the document; and transmitting data of the first and second bitmaps to a printing device for printing to a print medium.

  • Publication number: 20160086301
Abstract: An image pipeline execution method includes analyzing at least one attribute of an image and determining an image type of the image from a set of predetermined image types based on the analyzing the at least one attribute of the image. The image pipeline execution method also includes dynamically establishing an image pipeline to process the image based on the image type and executing the image pipeline to print the image.

  • Publication number: 20160080612
Abstract: A color input image comprising a plurality of pixels, each pixels encoded in RGB color space, is processed to convert the RGB pixels to another color space domain for printing the color input image. The number of colors within a cell of the input image is reduced. Each cell comprises an N×M array of pixels and the number of colors is reduced to a maximum of b source colors, wherein b is a positive integer equal to or greater than 2. Each of the resulting colors of each cell is calibrated to generate a printable color. The cells are then processed to convert the pixels of each cell into another color space, for example, to determine ink vectors, in another color space, for each calibrated color.

  • Publication number: 20150321487
Abstract: In some examples herein, control data is for application of treatment fluid on a treatment substrate location surrounding a substrate dot corresponding to a first pixel of the digital image. Treatment fluid is ejected on the treatment substrate location if a metric value computed from pixel values of a set of pixels in the neighborhood of the first pixel is above a threshold level.

  • Patent number: 9073312
Abstract: A method and apparatus for printing is disclosed. The printing is done with multiple printhead dies. • Patent number: 8958114
Abstract: A page-wide array inkjet printer allocates the processing tasks for individual printheads within the array to separate halftoning processors. Each halftoning processor processes the information relating to a strip of the image, with the boundaries between strips running parallel to the print medium advance direction. In a preferred embodiment, the pixels within each strip are processed using a forward error diffusion algorithm operating along columns of pixels parallel to the strip boundaries. The resulting halftone data is supplied from each halftoning processor to one or more uniquely associated printing component controllers, and these controllers generate print instructions for printing components (e.g. inkjet printheads) connected to the printing component controllers via a dedicated communications channel.

  • Patent number: 8840210
Abstract: An image may be printed at variable speed. An image density profile provides an estimation of power to be consumed while printing the image. A power consumption profile is generated based on the image density profile and by taking into account distance offsets between nozzles that are used to print the image. The image may be printed at different speeds based on the power consumption profile.

  • Patent number: 8215759
Abstract: Methods and means for imaging on paper media are provided. A data file of an image to be printed is analyzed. A pattern for a clear fluid is determined according to the analysis. The pattern of clear fluid is applied to a paper media traveling in a particular direction, wherein the pattern is generally elongated along the direction of travel. The pattern of clear fluid is defined by a maximum width that is generally equal to the maximum width of the image to be formed. One or more colored inks are applied such that the image is formed and is supported by the paper media. The paper media exhibits reduced cockle as a result of the pattern of clear fluid.

  • Patent number: 7660019
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a document having human-readable content and a position identifying encoding pattern. A printer places text or other content onto a substrate, such as paper, and a filter material application system applies transparent filter material to at least a portion of that content to only modify the reflectivity of the content at a predetermined wavelength. Because the reflectivity of the position identifying encoding pattern remains unchanged, it is distinguishable from the content and can be read at the predetermined wavelength. The position identifying pattern can take a number of forms including a number of dots printed at predetermined positions on the substrate on an imaginary grid.
