  • Publication number: 20050043752
Abstract: This is directed to methods and devices suited for maintaining an opening in a wall of a body organ for an extended period. More particularly devices and methods are directed maintaining patency of channels that alter gaseous flow within a lung to improve the expiration cycle of, for instance, an individual having chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
    Type: Application
    Filed: July 19, 2004
    Publication date: February 24, 2005
    Inventors: Loc Phan, Ed Roschak
  • Publication number: 20050042569
Abstract: A dental template to position an object on a patient's tooth includes digitizing the patient's tooth; adding virtual objects to predetermined locations on the digitized tooth; and fabricating the dental template to locate the object on the patient's tooth. The template can be used for etching or for positioning brackets on teeth.

  • Publication number: 20050014105
Abstract: Pliers for forming and removing bumps for the dental appliance without heating are disclosed. The pliers for making the bumps include a first elongated member having a first jaw portion at one end and a handle portion at the other end, the jaw portion having a projection mounted at a distal end of the first jaw portion; and a second elongated member joined to the first elongated member, the second elongated member having a second jaw portion at one end and a second handle portion at the other end, the second jaw portion adapted to receive the projection to create the bump in the dental appliance without heating. The bump can be supplemented with a material such as an adhesive.

  • Publication number: 20030147946
Abstract: Aqueous dispersions of crystalline polymers based on hydrophobic monomers, preferably on a mixture of hydrophobic and hydrophilic monomers which contains a crosslinking monomer, particularly side chain crystalline (SCC) polymers. The dispersions are useful for providing coatings on substrates, particularly on seeds (whose dormancy is thus extended) and on fibrous substrates, particularly human hair (which thus becomes heat-settable).

  • Publication number: 20010041320
Abstract: The present invention provides improved devices, systems and methods for repositioning teeth from an initial tooth arrangement to a final tooth arrangement. Repositioning is accomplished with a system comprising a series of polymeric shell appliances configured to receive the teeth and incrementally reposition individual teeth in a series of successive steps. The individual appliances may be formed from layers having different stiffnesses (elastic moduluses), and the stiffnesses of successive appliances may be different, or both.

  • Patent number: 6199318
Abstract: Crystalline polymers are prepared as a latex, and are useful for coating fibrous materials such hair and fabrics. The latex can have a high solids content greater than 30%, a residual monomer content of less than 1%, and can be used for repeatedly setting fibrous materials into desired configurations. The latex is also useful for coating organisms such as seeds. The particulate coating extends the dormancy of the organism and/or protects the organism, and is easily shed by a germinating seed. The coating can contain a seed coating additive, such as a colorant or fungicide.

  • Patent number: 5954744
Abstract: A stent designed to be carried on the balloon of a balloon catheter to a target site is described. The stent is formed of a series of expandable, strip-like segments, each formed of a memory polymer and adapted for movement between a closed, high-curvature condition and an expanded, low-curvature condition upon exposure to a selected stimulus.

  • Patent number: 5674242
Abstract: An endoprosthetic device for insertion at a vascular site is described. The device is composed of a structural member carrying a polymer member having an embedded therapeutic compound. The polymer member is formed of a shape-memory polymer for expansion upon exposed to a selected stimulus. The structural member is designed for coexpansion with the polymer member when the device is exposed to the stimulus.
