  • Publication number: 20130110942
Abstract: Messages directed to a mobile device are selectively routed to message servers based upon the capabilities of a network to which the mobile device is connected. According to an illustrative method disclosed herein, a network connectivity server receives a network identifier from the mobile device, the network connectivity server receives a request for routing instructions for the message, and the network connectivity server determines if the network identified by the network identifier is capable of delivering the message. The network connectivity server then instructs the message server to route the message according to a standard delivery method for a message type of the message or to a message conversion server computer based upon the determination. The message conversion server computer converts the message into a new message type that the network is capable of delivering to the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 7006818
Abstract: An apparatus and a method that enable private network providers to offer public network voicemail service. In the private network, a status indicator indicates the subscriber's availability to receive calls, and a controller outdials and/or issues signaling commands to the public network. A status register in the public network, being controllable by signaling commands, determines whether incoming calls are processed normally or routed to voicemail. When a call to the private network goes unanswered, the controller sets the public status register to route calls to the subscriber's public mailbox, and then establishes a link between the incoming call and the public voicemail. The public status register is reset either immediately after establishing the link or after call termination. When the private network subscriber desires to retrieve voicemail, the controller also sets the public status register to effects re-routing of incoming calls to public voicemail system during message retrieval.

  • Patent number: 6115598
Abstract: A method for facilitating the placement of emergency calls from a wireless telephone within a cellular, or other wireless, communication system is disclosed herein. A wireless telephone is configured to receive from a base station a local emergency number associated with the service area of the base station. During operation of the wireless telephone, each number dialed or otherwise entered in by a user is compared to the local emergency number. If the dialed number matches the local emergency number, an emergency call is initiated by the wireless telephone; otherwise, the wireless telephone initiates a standard telephone call in response to entry of the dialed number. The user interface of the wireless telephone may optionally provide an indication upon the placement of an emergency call.
