Patent number: 9050858Abstract: The invention relates generally to air maintenance tires and, more specifically, to a pump mechanism for supplying air into such tires.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2013Date of Patent: June 9, 2015Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Daniel Paul Luc Marie Hinque, Jean-Claude Patrice Philippe Griffoin, Lois Levy, Gilles Bonnet, Jean Joseph Victor Collette, Marcel Przibilla, Massimo Di Giacomo Russo

Patent number: 8820369Abstract: A self-inflating tire assembly includes an air tube connected to a tire and defining an air passageway, the air tube being composed of a flexible material operative to allow an air tube segment opposite a tire footprint to flatten, closing the passageway, and resiliently unflatten into an original configuration. The air tube is sequentially flattened by the tire footprint in a direction opposite to a tire direction of rotation to pump air along the passageway to an inlet device for exhaust from the passageway or to an outlet device for direction into the tire cavity. The inlet device is positioned within the annular passageway 180 degrees opposite the outlet device such that sequential flattening of the air tube by the tire footprint effects pumping of air along the air passageway with the tire rotating in either a forward or reverse direction of rotation. The invention further includes an outlet device for regulating the tire cavity pressure and flow into the cavity.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2011Date of Patent: September 2, 2014Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Daniel Paul Luc Marie Hinque, Lois Levy, Gilles Bonnet

Publication number: 20130160927Abstract: A method of constructing a tire includes: constructing an elongate strip core; encasing the strip core into a containment within an uncured flexible tire component, the strip core extending between an air inlet and an air outlet cavity in the flexible tire component; building on a tire building drum a green tire carcass from tire components including the flexible tire component and encased strip core; removing the encased strip core from the cured flexible tire component to leave within the flexible tire component a substantially unobstructed air passageway; and inserting a permanent air inlet assembly into the air inlet cavity and a permanent air outlet assembly into the air outlet cavity.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2011Publication date: June 27, 2013Inventors: Daniel Paul Luc Marie Hinque, Gilles Bonnet, Olivier Di Prizio, Lois Levy, Marcel Przibilla, Jean-Claude Patrice Philippe Griffoin, André Cuny, Gauthier Piret, Yannick Raymond Georges Haegel, Anne Therese Peronnet-Paquin, Andreas Frantzen, Raphael Beck, Etienne Besnoin, Ralf Reinardt
