  • Patent number: 7063241
Abstract: A dispensing tip includes a body suitable for attachment to a dispensing bottle along with a nozzle having a lumen therethrough for flow of liquid formulation and an egress orifice which is in fluid communication with the lumen for the formation of droplets. A concave arcuate surface of revolution about the egress orifice is provided and depending therefrom for enhancing droplet separation from the egress orifice which in turn insures uniform droplet formation and dispensement.

Date of Patent: June 20, 2006
    Assignee: Allergan, Inc.
Inventors: Lon T. Spada, Paul T. Butorac
  • Patent number: 6293037
Abstract: Acrylic, self-adhesive postage stamps are provided and include a flexible facestock bearing an acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA), protected by a release liner. The acrylic PSA is a tackified or inherently tacky polymer formed from a plurality of monomers comprising, based on the total weight of monomeric composition, essentially of (i) 9 to 40% isobornyl acrylate and (ii) 50 to 91% of one or more alkyl acrylates.

    Assignee: Avery Dennison Corporation
Inventors: Lon T. Spada, Carol A. Koch, Kathleen M. Alpaugh
  • Patent number: 5817426
Abstract: The invention provides inherently tacky PSAs that exhibit excellent adhesion to paper, corrugated board and low-energy surfaces, and comprise an acrylic emulsion polymer formed from (a) a plurality of monomers comprising, based on the total weight of monomers, (i) 9 to 40% isobornyl acrylate and (ii) 50 to 91% of one or more alkyl acrylates; (b) at least one initiator; and at least one emulsifier. In an alternate embodiment, the polymer is formed by solvent polymerization, without an emulsifier. A method for making such PSAs is also provided. In one embodiment, polymerization initiators are added to a monomer emulsion in a stepped feed.

  • Patent number: 5747192
Abstract: There is provided a single ply label for labelling a dry cell battery having an elongate peripheral case defining an axis and opposed ends enclosing a direct current, electrical energy providing core. The label is formed of a transparent, self-supporting, substantially monoaxially oriented, heat shrinkable polymer film backing having an outer surface and an inner surface, a width sufficient for the backing to embrace the battery case and provide, at opposed ends, first and second edges which extend parallel to the axis of the battery and meet in at least abutting relationship, and a length for extending beyond the opposed ends of the battery and lap over onto the opposed third and fourth ends of the battery. An alkali-resistant, electrically non-conductive, opaque, pigmented layer is applied to the inner surface of and supported by the backing. An electrically non-conductive, pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is applied over the pigmented layer at least along the first and second edges.

  • Patent number: 5122567
Abstract: There are disclosed normally tacky, pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions comprising one or more normally tacky polymers having a T.sub.g of about 0.degree. C. or less and containing pendant functional groups attached to the backbone and having the formula: ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 is a divalent organic radical at least 3 atoms in length, and X is organoacyl or cyano, the polymers preferably also being normally tacky when cured. Such polymers have markedly improved cohesive strength (shear holding value) with little or no detriment to adhesive tack or adhesion (peel resistance), and these improvements are realized without the necessity of incorporating cross-linking monomers such as N-methylolamides or other cross-linking agents. Pressure-sensitive adhesive, water-based emulsions containing such polymers and pressure-sensitive adhesive articles comprising a substrate having at least a portion of one surface thereof coated with the adhesive compositions are also disclosed.
