  • Patent number: 11230161
Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus are provided for optimizing control of the rotational speed of a fan in a vehicle so as to reduce the aerodynamic drag of a vehicle in a given operating parameter, and accordingly, to improve fuel efficiency of operation of the vehicle. Certain exemplary embodiments include determining an optimized speed of rotation of a cooling fan of the vehicle for reducing overall fuel demand in given operating conditions, and controlling rotation speed of the fan at the optimized speed in order to minimize fueling demand of a prime mover of the vehicle.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 19, 2020
Date of Patent: January 25, 2022
    Assignee: Cummins Inc.
Inventors: Rohit Saha, Long K. Hwang

  • Patent number: 9790899
Abstract: An exhaust gas cooler and method of cooling are provided. The exhaust gas cooler includes an inlet and outlet manifold and respectively including inlet and outlet openings and respectively positioned at a first and second end of the cooler. The exhaust gas cooler includes a plurality of conduits coupled to the inlet and outlet manifold and also includes at least one side wall coupled to the inlet and outlet manifold around the plurality of conduits, such that the plurality of conduits are disposed in a region between the at least one side wall and the inlet and outlet manifold. The at least one sidewall includes a first coolant inlet opening and a first coolant outlet opening each adjacent a first end of the exhaust gas cooler, a second coolant inlet opening, and a second coolant outlet opening. The exhaust gas cooler includes a bypass conduit positioned outside of the region.

  • Patent number: 6168134
Abstract: A flow control valve having a controllable flow area which varies with the valve displacement. The flow control valve includes a poppet-type valve element mounted to reciprocate between a closed and open position in a valve cavity formed in a valve housing. The valve housing has an inlet and outlet passage to allow fluid to flow therethrough. A removable insert having a flow passage is positioned in the valve cavity adjacent the poppet-valve for controlling the flow rate of gaseous fluid from the inlet passage to the outlet passage while the poppet valve is in an open position. Movement of the poppet valve from a closed to an open position varies the effective cross-sectional flow area of the flow passage.
