Abstract: A liquid crystal display has a liquid crystal display panel, a backlight and a dark layer. The liquid crystal display panel has an upper polarizer, a liquid crystal cell, and a lower polarizer, and the two polarizers both have wide view optical compensation films. The light emitted from the backlight is transmitted to a viewer through the lower polarizer, the liquid crystal cell, and the upper polarizer, sequentially. The dark layer of the invention is placed between the backlight and the viewer, and it lowers the dark-state brightness of the liquid crystal display to improve the downward angle view contrast ratio thereof to be greater than 10.

Abstract: A polarizer comprising an optical film and a birefringent film. The optical film reflects light selectively, and the birefringent film formed on the optical film exhibits Nz=(nx?nz)/(nx?ny) in a range from ?0.1 to ?5.0. The birefringent film is one selected from a group consisting of a polycarbonate, a triacetyl cellulose, a metallocene cycloolefin copolymer, and a polymer material. Therefore, by combining the polarizer in the present invention with a liquid crystal display panel, the problem of color shifts will be overcome and better visual performance will be presented.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a tape, comprising a color layer capable of displaying various colors with respect to different viewing angles, and at least one adhesive layer adhering to the color layer. The color layer is formed of at least two stacking materials, each having a refractive index different to that of another material adjacent thereto. In a preferred embodiment, the color layer is composed of a flexible substrate and at least one CLC layer while having the CLC layer adhering to the flexible substrate.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an optical film comprising a substrate and a material layer. The material layer formed on the substrate further comprises a birefringent material and a dye material capable of absorbing light within a wavelength range. The present invention further provides a method for forming an optical film comprising steps of: preparing an absorbent solution by mixing a birefringent material and a dye material capable of absorbing light within a wavelength range into a solvent; forming a film by coating the absorbent solution on a top surface of a substrate; vaporizing the solvent contained in the film; and curing the optical film.

Abstract: A structure of light control membrane is mainly comprised of a single layer of light-conducting membrane as a substrate, wherein the surface of the light-conducting membrane particularly has an opaque zone in spiral shape or multi-layer circular rippling wave shape. When a user views an image through the light-conducting membrane, the opaque zone in spiral shape or multi-layer circular rippling wave shape will make the image visible only within a specific range of viewing angle while, out of the specific range of viewing angle, the image is invisible.

Abstract: An optical film which retains the advantage of improving the brightness of LCD and resolves the color shift problem caused by cholesteric liquid crystal is provided. The optical film includes a reflective film and a brightness enhancement film. The reflective film, which is used for reflecting a first reflective light ranged in an infrared spectrum, includes a first cholesteric liquid crystal and a first transparent substrate. The brightness enhancement film includes a second transparent substrate, a second cholesteric liquid crystal and a phase retarder. The second cholesteric liquid crystal is used for reflecting a second reflective light which is incapable of passing through the brightness enhancement film. The phase retarder is used for transforming a circular polarized light passing through the second cholesteric liquid crystal into a linear polarized light.

Abstract: The polarizer of the invention is primarily composed of a retardation layer and a light reflecting layer. Since the retardation layer is capable of providing support to the polarizer and correcting color shifting and the light reflecting layer is capable of enhancing brightness and enlarging viewing angle for an LCD employing the polarizer, the polarizer is not only thinner and lighter than a conventional polarizer, but it also have better brightness and viewing angle, and use less power.

Abstract: It is the primary object of the invention to provide an ultra-thin brightness enhancement polarizer, and as the result, reduce the overall thickness of a display screen employing the brightness enhancement polarizer. In order to achieve the aforementioned object, the present invention provides a brightness enhancement polarizer, comprising: a reflective film, having a first surface and a second surface, for reflecting a portion of light incident thereon; a hydrophilic retardation film, having a first surface and a second surface, for modulating the phase of the light incident thereon; and a polarizing plate, having a first surface and a second surface, for modulating the polarity of the light incident thereon; wherein, the first surface of the retardation film is attached onto the second surface of the reflective film, and the first surface of the polarizing plate is attached onto the second surface of the retardation film.

Abstract: The present invention is related to a retardation device for a liquid crystal display and comprises: an upper retardation device, which has a plurality of retardation layers; a lower retardation device, which has a plurality of retardation layers as well; a LC cell layer, which is between the upper retardation device and the lower retardation device. The present invention adopts a set of retardation plates organized by the upper retardation device and the lower retardation device to apply on a MVA-LCD (Multi-domain Vertical Alignment Liquid Crystal Display) with features of high contrast and wide view angles to promote the contrast and the view angle.

Abstract: A polarizer to improve contrast for LCD from down view angle is produced by laminating a triacetate cellulose (TAC) sheet on each side of a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) sheet and further on the toppest triacetate cellulose (TAC) sheet applying a surface-treatment layer that is a protective film formed by black dye mixture to inhibit dark-state light leakage and improve the contrast for LCD from down view angle.

Abstract: A structure and generated method of a polarizer is provided in this present invention that comprises a black dye layer formed form a black dye. The black dye layer is located on a protective layer that absorbs an emissive light from a polymer film. Furthermore, a thickness of the black dye layer depends on the desirable saturation of absorbency. The view angle of a displayed apparatus could be improved by the structure of the polarizer in this present invention.
