Patent number: 8803472Abstract: Systems and methods for implementing a safety circuit in charging devices are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, a method may include closing a latch to stop delivery of a charging current to a battery when voltage produced by the battery indicates that the battery is non-rechargeable. The method may also include dropping a threshold from an initial value for the voltage produced by the battery to a baseline value so that the latch remains closed even if the voltage produced by the non-rechargeable battery drops below the initial value of the threshold. The method may also include resetting the latch each time a battery is connected to the charging device.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2007Date of Patent: August 12, 2014Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Lonnie W. Adelman, Clarence R. King, III, Patrick Regan, Jose De Jesus Ramirez

Patent number: 5837929Abstract: A method of making a microelectronic thermoelectric device comprises the steps of providing a substrate of a predetermined material, creating thermally isolated, alternating P-type and N-type semiconductor materials on the substrate, electrically connecting the P-type areas to adjacent N-type areas on opposite sides of each P-type area so that each side of a P-type area is connected to an adjacent different N-type area and leaving a free P-type end and a free N-type end, and providing an electrical lead on the free end of the P-type area and an electrical lead on the free end of said N-type area for connection to a source of electrical power. Further, a microelectronic thermoelectric device comprises a plurality of sections of semiconductor material of a first conductivity type and a plurality of sections of second conductivity type opposite to the first type. The sections are arranged to alternate from one type to the other and are thermally isolated from one another.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1996Date of Patent: November 17, 1998Assignee: Mantron, Inc.Inventor: Lonnie W. Patent number: 5656429Abstract: A method for sequencing nucleotides by attaching magnetizable moieties to the components of a mixture of such polynucleotide proteins and fragments, subjecting the mixture to a separation procedure to distribute the compounds on a substrate in a pattern according to molecular size and quantity, imparting magnetic properties to the attached magnetizable moieties, and then subjecting the substrate to magnetic reading to determine the molecular size and quantity of the compounds. Also disclosed is a method for monitoring a molecule amplification process wherein primers are used to produce copies of a molecule, which primers become part of the copy of the molecule by attaching a magnetized moiety to each primer such that the copy has magnetizable moieties at each end. The magnetizable moieties may then be magnetized.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1994Date of Patent: August 12, 1997Inventor: Lonnie W. Adelman
