  • Patent number: 5110506
Abstract: Soil release promoting liquid detergent compositions, suitable for washing lanundry and depositing soil release promoting copolymer on such laundry, are disclosed, which include a narrow range ethoxylate nonionic detergent (NRE), a soil release promoting compound which is a copolymer of polyethylene tetephthalate and polyoxyethylene terephthalate (PET-POET copolymer), and water. Other desirable components of such compositions include fluorescent brightener, anionic detergent, enzyme, enzyme stabilizers or stabilizer system, co-solvent, water and adjuvants. The liquid detergent is of a pH in the range of 7.3 to 8.1, of a viscosity in the range of 65 to 115 centipoises at 25.degree. C., and is stable on storage, so that the soil release promoting activity due to the presence of the PET-POET copolymer therein is usefully maintained during storage.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 1, 1989
Date of Patent: May 5, 1992
    Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive Company

  • Patent number: 4806261
Abstract: A detersive article, useful for charging an automatic washing machine with particulate built synthetic organic detergent composition, includes a detersive charge of such particulate composition in a closed container or packet which is formed by sealing about such composition a sheet or sheets of readily water dispersible water soluble cellulose compound and cellulose fibers, which is coated and/or covered or laminated with water soluble polyvinyl alcohol on interior surfaces thereof. The packet material dissolves or disperses rapidly when the packet is added to wash water in an automatic washing machine, and thereby releases contained detergent composition to the wash water earlier in the washing process than do other "dissolvable packets" which are made of polyvinyl alcohol.

  • Patent number: 4571303
Abstract: Polyethylene terephthalate-polyoxyethylene terephthalate soil release promoting polymers, which have been found to be subject to losses of soil release promoting properties on storage in contact with alkaline materials, such as builder salts for synthetic organic detergents, are stabilized by melting them together with a water soluble polyacrylate and subsequently converting the melt to solid particles which contain the PET-POET polymer and polyacrylate in intimate contact. The stabilized PET-POET polymer may then be added to a synthetic organic detergent composition, very preferably one based on nonionic detergent, the builder(s) for which may be polyphosphate, non-phosphate or a mixture.

Preferably the melt is at a temperature above 70.degree. C., such as within the range of 70.degree. to 150.degree. C., the melt is solidified by cooling and the solid product resulting is cryogenically size reduced to desired particle size and flake shape, preferably such as will pass through a No. 10 sieve, U.S. Sieve Series.
