  • Publication number: 20070194490
Abstract: A method of making a ballistic resistant composite material having improved resistance to high energy rifle bullets and the like. The method comprises providing at least one fibrous layer comprising a network of high tenacity aramid fibers. The fibrous layer is coated with a thermoplastic polyurethane resin. The coated fibrous layer is molded at a pressure of at least about 1,500 psi (10.3 MPa). Preferably, a plurality of fibrous layers are employed, each of which is formed from unidirectionally oriented aramid fibers in a thermoplastic polyurethane resin matrix. Adjacent fibrous layers are preferably oriented at 90° with respect to each other.

  • Publication number: 20070117483
Abstract: Fabric laminates having superior resistance to penetration of fragments, such as shrapnel. The fabrics are formed of high-strength fibers consolidated with from about 7% to about 15% by weight of an elastomeric matrix composition, and in combination with protective layers of a polymer film on each surface of the fabric. The fabrics achieve a significant improvement in fragment resistance compared to fabrics of the prior art, while also maintaining excellent ballistic resistant properties.

  • Publication number: 20070062595
Abstract: Plastic pipes, such as high density polyethylene plastic pipes, useful for distributing natural gas and which have improved impact resistance and burst strength. The plastic pipe has an inner and an outer surface, with the inner surface defining a channel for conveying natural gas and the like. A fabric overlies the outer surface, preferably in a helical wrap. The fabric is formed of high tenacity polyolefin fibers, preferably polyethylene and/or polypropylene fibers. The fabric provides the pipe with improved burst strength and impact resistance. The pipe can be used to transport natural gas under low pressure or higher pressures.

  • Publication number: 20030022177
Abstract: Probes and methods are provided for detection and analysis of nucleic acid sequences. The probes are single-labeled oligonucleotide probes whose fluorescence emission changes in response to probe-target hybridization and dissociation. The methods are for analyzing one or multiple nucleic acid loci using the probes. This invention further relates to the use of fluorescence changes in single-labeled probes for melting curve analysis, genotyping, and pathogen detection, and to methods for quantification of specific sequences in real-time monitoring of nucleic acid amplification.
