  • Publication number: 20150367541
Abstract: Interior soft trim components for a vehicle and methods for manufacturing the same are presented. Embodiments of the disclosed soft interior trim components may be manufactured using a spray application process. In some embodiments, the disclosed soft interior trim components may comprise a urethane skin layer and a urethane foam backer layer formed using a spray application process. The skin layer and foam backer layer may be bonded to a substrate material providing structure for the interior trim components. In certain embodiments, the skin layer and foam backer layer may be bonded to the substrate material prior to the foam backer layer curing, thereby allowing for bonding of the skin layer and foam backer layer to the substrate material without the use and/or with reduced use of adhesives.

  • Patent number: 8985820
Abstract: A lighted interior accessory assembly for a vehicle includes an interior accessory such as an armrest or console and a plurality of fasteners mounting the interior accessory on the interior panel. A mounting plate has a light pipe mounted thereon and emitting light along the length of the light pipe. The mounting plate is sandwiched between the armrest and the interior panel so that the mounting plate creates a gap between the armrest and the interior panel through which the light pipe emits light into the vehicle interior. Mounting the armrest directly to the door trim without inter-positioning the mounting plate between the armrest and the door trim eliminates the gap and eliminates the light pipe. Accordingly, a vehicle manufacturer can readily include a lighting feature in a luxury version of the vehicle and omit the lighting feature from a standard version of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20140004292
Abstract: A composite material includes a first layer formed from a thermoformable reinforced thermoplastic composite consolidatable from an initial, lofted state having an initial thickness, to a substantially consolidated state having a final thickness that is less than the initial thickness. The material includes a second layer fused to the first and formed from an expanded polyolefin foam. The foam is compressible from an original form having an original average thickness to a compressed form having a final average thickness that is less than the original average thickness. The second layer has first and second regions in the compressed form. The first region has a first thickness that is less than the original average thickness. The second region has a second thickness that is greater than the first thickness and less than the original average thickness. The material is substantially free from an adhesive disposed between the first and second layers.

  • Patent number: 7971923
Abstract: A vehicle door assembly is provided that includes a retainer that secures to a door body panel, specifically, to the door inner panel, and is configured such that a door trim component or components may be secured to the retainer, rather than directly to the door trim panel. Door trim components of lightweight materials may be used, with the retainer providing the structural integrity required for securement to the door inner panel. Because it is not a visible component in the assembled door, the same retainer design may be used for doors of different models in a given vehicle platform, with different door trim components of different materials or styles consistent with the different models secured to identical retainers.
