Patent number: 6571420Abstract: A system for cleaning the fouling and clogging of particulate matter associated with a fluidized gas bed. The system is particularly suited for use with Selective Catalytic Reduction reactors but its use is not limited thereto. The system includes a gas compressor to force cleaning gas through gas injection lines adjacent to retaining structures to be cleaned. The compressor produces sufficient pressure to cause the cleaning gas to dislodge the particulate from the retaining structures. A vacuum system withdraws the dislodged particulate and mixed gas from the reaction chamber.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2000Date of Patent: June 3, 2003Inventors: Edward Healy, Lothar Bachmann, Priya Misra

Patent number: 6116264Abstract: A valving system for diverting fluids from one location to another. The valving system includes a valve housing and two or more dampers. The dampers are rotatably coupled to one or more shafts and are designed to move in a synchronized manner such that when opens and closes prior to the other damper or dampers doing so. The valving system of the present invention is particularly useful in the field of regenerative incineration where it is necessary to rapidly change the movement of a hazardous fluid from one regeneration bed to another. However, it may be used in any environment in which switching of the fluid flow over relatively short time periods is desired. The valving system diverts the fluid in a switchable manner that minimizes energy usage without diverting raw fluid directly to an output. A sealing system is located at the ends of the dampers.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 1997Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Assignee: Bachmann IndustriesInventors: Lothar Bachmann, Frank W. Jurgilas

Patent number: 5918632Abstract: A louver damper device for the control of fluid flow within a conduit. The louver damper device includes one or more louvers, wherein each louver is a single-walled pivotable unit. The ends of louvers that are adjacent to one another are designed with coupling legs so that when the device is actuated into a blocking position within the conduit, the louver ends become sealingly engaged so as to form relatively small sealing chambers therebetween. Purge air may then be delivered to the sealing chambers to ensure a complete blocking of fluid movement within the conduit. The louvers adjacent to the conduit walls include end modifications similar to those provided to the intermediate louvers. Alternatively, flexible sealing hubs may be affixed to the conduit walls for engagement with modified ends of those perimeter louvers designed to sweep away any particulate residing on the flexible hubs without affect on the seal between those louvers and the interior conduit walls.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1997Date of Patent: July 6, 1999Assignee: Bachmann IndustriesInventors: Lothar Bachmann, Frank W. Patent number: 5186205Abstract: Valves of the diverter and isolating types have their ports which are to be opened and closed surrounded by seats each of which is inclined inwardly towards the surrounded port. The hinged blades are surrounded by tips in support of seals of which there are two for each port to be closed. The seals are metallic and resiliently flexible and the seals of each pair are disposed to engage spaced apart, transverse zones of a seat when a blade is operatively positioned to close the surrounded port. As a diverter valve has two ports to be closed by opposite sides of its blade, there are two like but oppositely disposed pairs of seals, one pair for each port. With both types of valves, the seals of a blade are in substantially linear engagement with a seat when the blade is positioned to close the associated port and are in scraping engagement with the seat as the blade moves into and out of that position.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1991Date of Patent: February 16, 1993Assignee: Bachmann Industries, Inc.Inventor: Lothar Bachmann

Patent number: 4848803Abstract: Fabric expansion joints suitable for use in the exhaust systems of gas turbines are of three types definable with reference to whether a frame is to be connected to a duct section which is externally insulated or one which is internally insulated. In joints where only the outlet frame or where both the inlet and outlet frames are to be connected to internally insulated sections, the flanges of the liners are connected to their frames in a manner preventing movement of the liners relative to the axis of the flow path through the joint but permitting thermal flange growth relative to the frames. Where a frame is to be connected to an externally insulated duct, the frame includes structure spaced from the flange of the liner which defines therewith an inwardly opening, thermal distribution channel. In each type, the free ends of the liners overlap in a spaced apart relationship and are interconnected in a manner permitting relative lengthwise movement between them.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1987Date of Patent: July 18, 1989Assignee: Bachmann Industries, Inc.Inventor: Lothar Bachmann

Patent number: 4823836Abstract: A leaf spring seal to effect sealing contact between such members as a damper blade and a frame consists of a set of leaf springs having their inner portions held together by clamping components of which one is a bar and the other the inner portion of a ledge. Either the ledge or the bar may be a part of whichever member is to be provided with the seal with the other member then provided with a seat. The outer leaf spring portions of the leaf springs are all inclined in the same direction and to the same extent relative to their inner portions and decrease in width with the outer leaf spring portion of maximum width and in sealing contact with the seat when the seal and seat are in engagement with the leaf spring set then tensioned. The outer portion of the ledge is inclined in the same direction as the outer leaf spring portions and engages one of them to maintain the leaf spring set tensioned at least until the seal and the seat are engaged.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 1988Date of Patent: April 25, 1989Inventors: Lothar Bachmann, William F. Patent number: 4821507Abstract: A gas flow diverter receives large volumes of hot gases from a gas turbine and has a blade adapted to close either the outlet port to a heat recovery steam generator or the outlet port to the stack. Each port is surrounded by an open channel the two side walls of which are each provided with a seal with both exposed, one beyond the other. The surfaces of the blade are stainless steel cladding and are connected through insulation to a reinforcement in a manner permitting but confining the expansion of the cladding. The frame has a border providing first and second ledges on each side which are spaced and positioned so that each may engage a different one of the two seals bordering an outlet port when closed thus establishing the channel as a closed passageway surrounding the closed port which may be sealed against leakage by discharging sealing air into it.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1987Date of Patent: April 18, 1989Assignee: Bachmann Industries, Inc.Inventors: Lothar Bachmann, William F.
