  • Patent number: 5551382
Abstract: This invention relates to a reciprocating internal combustion engine having a cylinder crankcase with a cylinder head with is designed to reduce the manufacturing and spare parts cost. A single design unified cylinder head is employed for liquid cooling and air cooling, the cylinder head having both cooling spaces for the liquid coolant and cooling fins for the cooling air. Coolant passageways in the cylinder head are connected to coolant spaces in the cylinder block portion of the cylinder crankcase by way of openings in the upper end of the cylinder block and openings in the cylinder head gasket which permit flow of coolant to the annuli in the cylinder head. In addition to the annuli, the coolant passageways in the cylinder head include a longitudinally extending header, horizontally extending web ducts extending radially inward from the annuli and vertically extending connecting conduits inclined relative to the cylinder axes interconnecting the web ducts and the header.

  • Patent number: 5253399
Abstract: An apparatus and method for the high speed manufacture of a plurality of leads allows for the manufacture of various lengths of leads, as well as leads utilizing different wire gauges. The lead making apparatus has a plurality of wire gripping devices which are movable between an open position and a closed position. Each of the wire gripping devices has a channel which is dimensioned to allow the wire to be positioned and maintained therein. A wire feed is positioned proximate to the wire gripping devices and cooperates with the wire to advance the wire into the wire gripping devices. A drive belt is provided adjacent to the wire gripping devices and cooperates with the wire gripping devices to move the wire gripping devices. Whereby the drive belt moves the wire gripping devices in the same direction as the wire feed advances the wire, such that as the wire gripping devices are moved, the wire will be advanced into the channels of the wire gripping devices.

  • Patent number: 5016346
Abstract: A leading bung seal (BS1) in a magazine (4) is picked up by a bung seal transfer clamp (8) and is positioned between a bung seal receptacle (6) and a bung seal transfer device (10), which are axially aligned. A bung seal expansion pin (18) is advanced to drive the leading bung seal (BS1) into the bung seal receptacle (6), to force it against a resilient grommet (42) therein, and to extend through the bung seal (BS1) so as to expand it. A bung seal expansion sleeve (14) surrounding the expansion pin (18) is then advanced further to expand the bung seal (BS1) and the pin (18) is withdrawn leaving the bung seal (BS1) secured to the expansion sleeve (14) by its own resilience.

  • Patent number: 4781158
Abstract: An air-cooled block cylinder head adapted for mounting on an open-deck cylinder casing of an internal combustion engine. In order to maintain a tight seal of the cylinder head to the cylinder casing, the combustion chamber floor of the cylinder head is designed to be deflected in a manner that does not adversely affect the sealing of the cylinder head to the cylinder casing. This is achieved by designing the cooling chamber side of the cylinder head floor with a gradually changing floor wall thickness in the area directly above the cylinder combustion chamber. In the preferred designs, the combustion chamber floor is designed to be concave or convex. The cylinder head also includes features for effectively cooling the combustion chamber floor and for isolating the exhaust conduit.

  • Patent number: 4455973
Abstract: A cylinder head, for a water cooled internal combustion engine, which reduces the thermal stresses. The gas-changing channels and the oil-return channels are located on one side. A main water overflow, in conjunction with an oppositely located auxiliary water overflow, makes possible a precise or directed flow along the valve land portion and around the turbulence chamber or the injection nozzle channel, whereby the flow is kept along the cylinder head bottom by a roof-shaped wall on the side remote from the cylinder block. The strength of the cylinder head is increased, and the oil removal is improved, by associating an oil-return channel with each cylinder. Specially shaped cylinder head screw channels increase the compression or pressure against the combustion chamber walls and effect a more uniform pressure distribution. A more favorable sealing behavior is attained by compensation or expansion curvatures in the cylinder head cover plate.
