Patent number: 7361836Abstract: A method of building a cable termination is provided. The termination has an outer insulator body, a substantially longitudinally extended interior member having the electrical cable to be terminated, having a conductor for carrying load, an insulating material filled in a cavity between the outer insulator body and the interior member and means for accommodating volume expansions of the insulating material filled within the cavity. The cavity is created by introducing the interior member into the insulator body, filling the insulating material into the cavity and sealing the termination. A volume change compensation member having a predetermined volume to accommodate volume expansions of the insulating material within the cavity is placed into the cavity. Respective terminations are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2002Date of Patent: April 22, 2008Assignee: Prysmian Cavi e Sistemi Energia S.r.l.Inventor: Lothar Goehlich

Patent number: 7102076Abstract: A water sensing wire for a cable. The water sensing wire has a conductor and a water permeable insulation surrounding the conductor. The conductor is formed by a plurality of metal wires. The water sensing wire may also have a plurality of filaments contained inside the water permeable insulation. Longitudinal and/or radial application of stresses cannot cause damage to the water sensing wire because damage can be avoided by the deformable cross section of the sensor conductor and by the reinforcement provided through the filaments. The water sensing wire is particularly useful in power cables but may also be used in telecommunication cables or optical fibers.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2003Date of Patent: September 5, 2006Assignee: Pirelli Kabel und Systeme GmbH & Co. Patent number: 6872890Abstract: A cable arrangement where three cables have at least two cross-bonding locations when transmitting power between a first location and a second location. At the cross-bonding location not only the screens but also the water sensing wires are cross-bonded in cross-bonding devices. Thus, voltage differences between the water sensing wires and the screens of the respective cables in the three-phase system can be avoided. A particular application is found in high power transmission systems using high voltage cables.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2001Date of Patent: March 29, 2005Assignee: PIRELLI Kabel und Systeme GmbH & Co. Patent number: 6784371Abstract: A cable has a cable core, an inner cable sheath, an outer sheath, and a sensor. The sensor may extend along the cable for detecting a detectable substance inside the cable. In addition, the sensor may be arranged between the inner cable sheath and the outer sheath for detecting such substance outside the inner cable sheath. Furthermore, the cable may include a structured material between the inner cable sheath and the outer sheath arranged to allow any detectable substance entering between the inner cable sheath and the outer sheath to travel along the perimeter of the inner cable sheath to reach the sensor. The structured material may be configured to create at least one interstice between the inner cable sheath and the outer sheath. The at least one interstice may be configured to collect at least a portion of the detectable substance and to be intersected by the sensor.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2002Date of Patent: August 31, 2004Assignee: Pirelli Kabel und Systeme GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4357487Abstract: Fittings for plastic insulated medium voltage cables, which can be pushed on or plugged in, consisting essentially of an elastic insulating body with an outer contact protection in which a metallic housing which is axially slotted one or more times is used as contact protection. The slots, which are parallel or inclined to the housing axis and can be interrupted one or more times, ensure radial elasticity of the metallic housing. The housing can be embedded in the elastic insulating body, preferably in an electrically conducting layer of the insulating body.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1980Date of Patent: November 2, 1982Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Lothar Goehlich, Jurgen Haug

Patent number: 4328393Abstract: In order to ensure a tight feed-in of the cable end in a fitting for plastic insulated electric cables, which includes an elastic, prefabricated insulator with a metallic housing, even if the cable is bent, a circular slot, the depth of which corresponds approximately to the length of the cylindrical base part of a control deflector embedded on the inside in the end of the insulating body of the insulator, is made in the cylindrical end of the insulator at the end face. The slot separates the elastic control part of the fitting into a mechanically effective and an electrically effective region.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1980Date of Patent: May 4, 1982Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Lothar Goehlich, Klaus Kretschmer
