Abstract: Single-component sealing compositions based on mercapto-terminated polymers and/or oligomers and latent hardeners are disclosed. The substances are substantially water-free and the hardeners are alkali perborate monohydrates.

Abstract: Polysulfide sheeting is prepared by mixing a curable polysulfide oligomer or polymer, carbon black, and manganese dioxide as a hardening catalyst; forming the composition into a sheet; and curing the sheet at an elevated temperature. The sheeting has unusually high short-term heat resistance, so it will not lose its watertightness when coated with hot-laid asphalt at 240.degree. C. It has better resistance to ultraviolet light than conventional polysulfide sheeting, and good penetration and compression set resistance. The sheeting can be laminated to a reinforcing layer, if desired. A continuous waterproofing layer can be formed by laying pieces of the sheeting in overlapping relation, placing an uncured polysulfide rope between the overlapping edges of adjacent pieces of sheeting, and curing the rope, thus joining the pieces to form an integral sheet. Such waterproof layers can be incorporated into paving for bridges, roofs, and other structures.

Abstract: Anhydrous adhesives and sealants based on mercapto terminated polymers and/or oligomers and manganese (IV) oxide as the hardener are thermosetting if they contain only alkaline or neutral fillers and additives. The mixtures can be used for application with heating.

Abstract: A polysulfide sealing composition is described which contains, in addition to the hardening agents and optional fillers, softeners and other conventional additives, a mixture of a solid polysulfide rubber with terminal SH groups and a liquid polysulfide polymer with terminal SH groups, wherein the weight ratio of the respective solid and liquid polysulfide is 100:5 to 15. The composition may be used for the manufacture of insulating glass units.

Abstract: A novel process for the selective removal of cadmium ions from aqueous media such as sewage by contacting the aqueous media with an effective amount of at least one water-insoluble organic polysulfide compound to selectively remove the cadmium ions and separating the polysulfide compounds.

Abstract: A process for preparing a mixture capable of hardening when exposed to atmospheric moisture, but stable when stored in the absence of moisture, comprises mixing a liquid monomer, oligomer and polymer, liquid oligomer or liquid polymer having at least one terminal mercapto group with a latent hardener comprised of a paste containing anhydrous Na.sub.2 CrO.sub.4 and a water-soluble solvent, such as dimethyl formamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, methanol, ethanol, glycol, glycerine or dioxane. The resulting mixture is useful as a caulking compound.

Abstract: A storage-stable, very quickly hardenable, one-component sealant comprises a mercapto-terminated liquid polymer having uniformly distributed therein a curing agent for the polymer, wherein the curing agent is in a micro-encapsulated state.
