  • Patent number: 4665678
Abstract: A lightweight construction with sandwich elements consisting of core and covering surfaces may be produced in that high-strength hollow profiles are fixed to a molded frame at a spacing from each other, the remaining space around the hollow profiles is filled with a pressure-resistant casting compound which supports the profiles, and the top layers which determine the bending resistance of the elements are applied thereto. In this manner multidimensionally curved covering surfaces of unlimited size, such as the bodies of boats, can be economically produced.

  • Patent number: 4659797
Abstract: Polyurethane-based matrix materials are made by reacting a phenol which is at least bifunctional with an aromatic isocyanate which is at least difunctional in the presence of 1-40 wt. % soft segment former. The soft segment former is a compound containing long chain aliphatic groups having at least six carbon atoms in the aliphatic group, an isocyanate-reactive group and a molecular weight of from 800 to 10,000. From 90 to 130 equivalent percent of isocyanate groups (based on the total of isocyanate-reactive groups present in the phenol and soft segment former) are employed. These matrix materials are particularly useful in the production of composite materials and as adhesives.

  • Patent number: 4592421
Abstract: The sucker rod system in a deep well sucker rod pump consists of a plurality of unidirectionally reinforced composite fiber rods extending substantially parallel but not in contact with each other, the cross-sectional area of which rods is less than 1 cm.sup.2. This enables the advantageous material properties to be utilized to a high degree. The sucker rod system can be assembled on site. The individual composite fiber rods can be monitored when they are in the working position.

  • Patent number: 4526492
Abstract: An anchorage for a rod of fibrous composite material includes sleeve having a bore receptive of a rod, the bore being profiled substantially perpendicularly to the axis of the received rod and an element for widening the received end of the rod. The cross section of the bore is substantially similar to the cross section of the rod to be received, substantially constant along the length of the bore and greater than the non-widened cross section of the rod. A sealing compound completely fills the space between the rod, the widening element and the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4501516
Abstract: By using a packer which is pushed as far over an anchor as the intended length of the moulding, the cavity in a borehole in the region of the bond can be completely filled with a reactive resin. Overhead work is possible even with slowly reacting resins. By using a catalyst on the packer, the reactive resin injected into the borehole behind the packer can be made to harden very rapidly.

  • Patent number: 4300321
Abstract: By fitting cores in unidirectionally reinforced composite fibre material articles, it is possible to utilize their high tensile strength in the fibre direction far more because they can be anchored better without special outlay. The cross-section of the cores have to change in the fibre direction and it is important that the fibres run in a clinging fashion on the core and that it is completely embedded therein. The composite fibre material articles provided with cores can be produced continuously. The central region of a glass fibre bundle widens in an impregnation bath, the core inlay is introduced into this region and the fibres are then pressed against the core.

  • Patent number: 4273476
Abstract: The outer skin of armored earthwork constructions is attached to bands and the traction is transmitted to the ground by friction. The bands are made of a corrosion resistant, high strength weave or netting of reinforced organic, glass or carbon fibres or fibre mixtures and are preferably impregnated with liquid reaction resins such as epoxide, polyurethane or isocyanate resins. It is advantageous to impregnate the bands and then to harden them only after they have been laid.
