Patent number: 7513060Abstract: A measurement tool for determining at least one of the loft angle or the lie angle of a golf club. The measurement tool includes a golf club head support structure having a mating surface and at least one beveled support element. The gauge also has a clamping tool capable securing the golf club head to the golf club head support structure. The clamping tool may include a pushing element and a mating element. The mating element has a jaw for applying a lateral force to the golf club head to secure it to the golf club support structure and a fastening plate for applying a vertical force to the golf club head to secure it to the golf club support structure. A gauge capable of indicating at least one of the loft angle or the lie angle of the golf club is positioned adjacent to the golf club head support structure.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2007Date of Patent: April 7, 2009Assignee: Karsten Manufacturing CorporationInventors: John C. Souza, Lou C. Beebe, James Wells, John P. Fife, Jr., Ruben Viramontes

Patent number: 7309296Abstract: A golf club head has a face insert that is supported from beneath by a substrate composed of a plurality of elongate rod elements arranged in a parallel closely packed array. Because the face insert is made of a single material, the resiliency of the face insert itself does not vary across the front surface of the face insert; however, the effective resiliency of the face insert may be varied by varying the resiliency of the substrate. This is accomplished by selecting different materials and/or different overall lengths for the rod elements that comprise the substrate. Use of a substrate comprising a plurality of rod elements permits the effective resiliency of the face insert to be varied without varying the face material.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2006Date of Patent: December 18, 2007Assignee: Karsten Manufacturing CorporationInventors: John C. Souza, David E. Wright, Mustapha Hayouna, Lou C. Beebe

Patent number: 6623372Abstract: A golf putter, which has a shaft with an adjustable length and a hosel with an adjustable lie angle, is designed for use in custom fitting of golf putters. The golf putter includes a putter head, and the shaft has an upper shaft portion and a lower shaft portion. The hosel includes a first hosel portion extending upwardly from the putter head, and a second hosel portion extending downwardly from the lower shaft portion. The first and second hosel portions are movable relative to each other to adjust the lie angle of the hosel. An elongated rod extends upwardly from the lower shaft portion into the upper shaft portion. The elongated rod is slidably interconnected with the upper shaft portion to adjust the length of the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2002Date of Patent: September 23, 2003Assignee: Karsten Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Lou C. Beebe, John P. Fife, Jr., James Wells

Patent number: 6354959Abstract: A golf putter includes a head having a face arranged for impacting a golf ball, a hosel having a lower end connected to the head, and a shaft connected to an upper end of the hosel. The hosel includes a leg portion extending upwardly from the head, and at least one vibration absorbing insert is disposed in a hole formed in the hosel leg portion. The vibration absorbing insert is preferably formed of polyurethane. The head may be formed of heavyweight material such as stainless steel, and the hosel may be formed of lightweight material such as titanium.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2000Date of Patent: March 12, 2002Assignee: Karsten Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Michael R. Nicolette, Lou C. Beebe, John K. Solheim, Michael J. Nelson, Douglas W. Anderson

Patent number: 6186903Abstract: A golf club head includes a front face arranged for impact with a golf ball, a heel portion and a toe portion. A hosel has a neck connected to the heel portion of the body. The hosel contains a bore for receiving one end of a golf club shaft, and the bore has a desired orientation relative to the body. The hosel neck has an upper surface and a lower surface, and a notch is formed in the lower surface of the hosel neck. The notch has a depth that varies along its length. A critical dimension measured between the upper surface of the hosel neck and a point on the depth of the notch is less than the outside diameter of the hosel. This permits the desired orientation of the bore to be adjusted by bending the hosel neck at the notch.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1999Date of Patent: February 13, 2001Assignee: Karsten Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Lou C. Beebe, Daniel J. Kubica
