  • Patent number: 7539332
Abstract: System and method for automatically extracting at least one region of a first type of bone tissue from a target bone. A digital radiograph image with the target bone is received. Based on the digital radiograph image, at least one region of a first type of bone tissue is automatically identified or extracted. This region can then be utilized for different purposes, such as assessment, qualitative assessment, quantitative assessment, analysis, spatial domain analysis, frequency domain analysis, and calculation of one or more target bone features.

  • Publication number: 20060222223
Abstract: Methods and systems for analyzing bone tissue using a mammography device is provided. Image data is obtained from the mammography device and used to generate a bone condition profile. The bone condition profile includes use of radiographic absorptiometry methods to construct a representative mammography profile of a particular sample tissue. The bone condition profile includes a measure of bone mineral density.

  • Publication number: 20050031181
Abstract: A method and system for in use in diagnosing or monitoring a bone or joint condition in a patient are disclosed. In practicing the method, there is obtained at one site, a digitized, radiographic image of a bone. This image is entered in the image section of a DICOM compliant file also containing a patient-data section. At the same or a different site, bone-analysis software is applied to the digitized radiographic image, to obtain data relating to such bone condition, and this data is entered into the patient-data section of the DICOM file. One or both of the DICOM sections can be accessed at the same site or a site that is remote from one or both of above sites. In addition, a bone-analysis software may be installed in a server and applied to analyze the digitized radiographic image to obtain resulting data. The data may be sent out as a link or a report file.

  • Patent number: 6246745
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring bone density in a body part. The method and apparatus receive and process a digital image that includes at least one digit, a calibration wedge, and a target bone to compute the density of the target bone. Based on the digital image, a contour for the digit and the target bone are automatically extracted and displayed for the user. A user is then provided an opportunity to input information via an easy-to-use graphical user interface. The contour of the target bone is then automatically re-computed based on the user input. Then, the bone mineral density of the target bone is computed based on the re-computed contour of the target bone.
