  • Patent number: 11623876
Abstract: A scalable phytoremediation system that uses rock medium supporting a Salicaceae (poplar or willow) tree rhizosphere in a basin with controllable volume and water depth that results in tertiary treatment requirements for organic BOD, pathogens, ammonia-nitrogen, nitrate-nitrogen and phosphorous pollutants and PFAS. COC removal is achieved by pollutant sorption, plant uptake and increased microbial mineralization activity. Phyto basin achieves faster pollutant mineralization to achieve regulated water quality standards. The Basin reactor system uses photosynthesis and rhizosphere dynamics to create a predictable reactor into carbon-rich microbial biomass to remove waste water pollutants (COC). The Basin uses <10% of the energy required for alternative tertiary treatment system. The Basin COC treatment functions year-round including through the trees dormant season.

  • Patent number: 10865129
Abstract: A scalable and moveable phytoremediation cell and system that uses perlite medium surrounding a poplar or willow tree root zone in a cell that results in excellent organic and mineral pollutant treatment. COC removal is achieved by pollutant sorption, increased microbial mineralization activity, fluctuating redox potential, and achieving faster break down of pollutants to achieve regulated water quality standards. The cell reactor system uses photosynthesis and rhizosphere dynamics to create a predictable reactor into carbon-rich microbial biomass mass to remove waste water pollutants (COC). The cell uses <10% of the energy required for alternative tertiary treatment system.

  • Publication number: 20130276370
Abstract: The invention is a phytoremediation test cell that mimics mature plant remediation properties. The test cell allows a test of the accuracy and efficiency of phytoremediation by placing the trees that are to be used for phytoremediation in a contained elongated cavity filled with the soil or root medium that is to be phytoremediated. The cell has a drain outlet at its bottom that water poured through the cell is in contact with the roots of the phytoremediating plant and then drains through the outlet such that it can be tested. The plants are 8-10 months old and arranged in the cell such that their roots are surrounded and in direct contact with the root medium.

  • Patent number: 6250237
Abstract: A method of naturally removing or inhibiting pollutants. Tree stems are planted adjacent to or intersecting near surface ground water supply or adjacent a contaminated air source. The trees and rooted soil serve as a sponge and a pump to remove pollutants from water sources and serve as a buffer system to remove contaminants from air and polluted water sources. The system can also be used as a cap over landfills and brown fields to manage water.

  • Patent number: 5947041
Abstract: A method of naturally removing or inhibiting pollutants is described. Tree stems from trees having preformed root initials and a perennial root system are planted adjacent to or intersecting near surface ground water supply, at the area where water is to be decontaminated or at the source of pollution. The stems are planted densely to achieve maximum pollution control and environmental affects. Row planting is used and the crop harvested on a rotating basis.
