  • Patent number: 7754940
Abstract: A sanitary absorbent article is disclosed which is intended to be worn against a pudendal region of a user. The sanitary absorbent article is thin, i.e. having a thickness equal to or less than 5 mm and comprises a body contacting surface with at least one protrusion on the body contacting surface. The protrusion has a height H of at least 0.5 mm, and an equivalent width W. The protrusion also includes a ratio W/H ranging from about 2 to about 10.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 12, 2003
Date of Patent: July 13, 2010
    Assignee: Johnson & Johnson Inc.
Inventors: Henri Brisebois, Louis Canuel, Christiane Lariviere, Anthony Schoonen
  • Publication number: 20090266481
Abstract: The invention provides a disposable sanitary napkin. The sanitary napkin comprises: a main body; an adhesive fastener; at least one peelable protective layer; and at least one pull-tab. The main body, which is adapted for absorbing bodily exudates, also includes: an upper surface, which faces toward the wearer when the napkin is in use; a lower surface, which faces away from the user; a longitudinally extending centerline; a transversally extending centerline; and a peripheral edge. The adhesive fastener is covered by the peelable protective layer prior to the napkin's use. The pull tab contacts the peelable protective layer to promote separation of the peelable protective layer from the adhesive fastener when the pull tab is being pulled.

  • Patent number: 6503234
Abstract: A sanitary napkin is disclosed that is thin, highly absorbent and has a flexibility selected to provide good comfort potential and at the same time reduce the likelihood of uncontrolled deformation, known as bunching. In a specific example, the sanitary napkin has a cover layer, an absorbent system and barrier layer. The absorbent system has superabsorbent material in a matrix of cellulosic fibers.

  • Patent number: 6440113
Abstract: The present sanitary napkin is thin (less than 4 mm in thickness), highly absorbent and has a flexural resistance which provides controlled deformation when in use, namely the assumption of a “W” pattern (good for absorption performance) or a “M” pattern (which enhances comfort). This controlled deformation provides a good comfort potential and simultaneously reduces the likelihood of bunching due to compression forces exerted laterally against the napkin by the thighs of the wearer. The sanitary napkin is characterized by a flexural resistance of not less than about 400 g. The sanitary napkin has a cover layer, a barrier layer and an absorbent system having at least one preferential bending zone which allows the napkin to adopt a certain three-dimensional deformation profile in response to lateral compression.

  • Publication number: 20010041877
Abstract: A sanitary napkin including a liquid-absorbing section for absorbing body exudate and a breathable extension component adjacent the rear portion of the liquid-absorbing section. The breathable extension component is preferably free of absorbent material and has a moisture vapor transmission rate of at least about 3000 g/m2/day to allow moisture trapped between the breathable extension component and the skin of the wearer to evaporate.
