  • Patent number: 4821159
Abstract: A lamp arm assembly includes at least one swivel assembly (A,D) and tubular arms (90, 150) for supporting a lighting fixture (E). The swivel assemblies include at least a first swivel member (10, 100) and a second swivel member (30, 120). Each swivel member has a peripheral outer surface (12, 102, 32, 122) and an interior passage (14, 34, 104, 124). One of the swivel members includes an annular collar (16, 106) projecting into the inner passage and the other includes a ferrule (36, 126) which is received in the annular collar and crimped thereto. The swivel members have bearing surfaces (18, 38, 108, 128) around the ferrule which are urged into firm frictional engagement by the crimping. One of the bearing surfaces is supported on a cylindrical supporting portion (44, 130) and the other has a skirt (40, 108) with a cylindrical inner surface. The cylindrical surfaces of the skirt and the bearing surface supporting portion are sufficiently different to form an annular gap.

  • Patent number: 4734838
Abstract: A lighting socket assembly (16) is mounted on an upper end of an L-shaped slide tube (A), such as a brass tube. A one piece, plastic clutch block (30) defines a cylindrical bearing surface (32) integrally therewith. The L-shaped tube lower portion (10) is slidably and rotatably received in frictional engagement with the cylindrical bearing surface such that the tube is slidable and rotatable therein. A threaded member (40) is threadly received in a bore (38) in the clutch block. A smooth inner surface (48) of the threaded member selectively engages the received L-shaped tube to adjust the degree of frictional engagement between the clutch block and the tube. By selectively advancing and retreating the threaded element with a manually graspable portion (46) rotational and vertical adjustment of the lamp assembly relative to the clutch block is facilitated. The clutch block is supported on a vertical rod or tube (60) which is mounted to a base (62).

  • Patent number: 4605995
Abstract: A swivel assembly includes a first swivel member, a second swivel member, and a third swivel member. A first mounting member has a first end which is received in a first bore in the first swivel member in engagement with a first stop. The first mounting member defines a shoulder which engages a mounting surface. A like mounting member is received in a bore of the third swivel member in engagement with a stop. The relative position of the shoulders of each of the two mounting members is fixed by the position of the stops and the length between the mounting member first end and shoulder. An arm extends from the second member such that the arm and second member swivel about the first and third members. A fixed member extends from the first swivel member and receives a locking member therein. The locking member selectively moves vertically into and out of engagement with a locking member receiving recess in the arm.

  • Patent number: 4459650
Abstract: A swivel assembly (A) connects a lamp arm assembly (B) with a wall mounting (C). A lamp assembly (D) is supported by the lamp arm assembly. The swivel assembly includes a first swivel member (10), a second swivel member (20), and a third swivel member (30) each having an axial passage therethrough. A first end (42) of a first arm (40) is nonrotatably connected axially with the second swivel member. A linear region (46) of the first arm extends rotatably through the axial passage of the third swivel member. The first and third swivel members are connected with the wall mounting by threaded sleeves (96, 102). In this manner, the second swivel member and the attached arm which extends axially therefrom are able to be rotated selectively around the wall mounting.

  • Patent number: 4386393
Abstract: A swivel with an adjustable frictional drag is disclosed. The swivel has a first member which has a first side wall surrounding a first axial cavity. The first side wall has a generally transverse bore which is connected to a first tubular lamp arm. The first side wall further has an annular engaging surface adjacent one end. A first end wall which has a first axial bore in communication with the first cavity is connected with the other end of the first side wall. A first bearing surface surrounds the first axial bore. The swivel further includes a second member which has a second side wall surrounding a second axial cavity. The second side wall has a generally transverse bore which receives a tubular lamp arm. The second side wall further has a second engaging surface adjacent one end for sliding engagement with the first engaging surface during relative rotational movement between the first and second members.
