  • Patent number: 4395343
Abstract: An antioxidant additive combination for lubricating oils is prepared by combining (a) a sulfur containing molybdenum compound prepared by reacting an acidic molybdenum compound, a basic nitrogen compound, and carbon disulfide, with (b) an organic sulfur compound.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 7, 1981
Date of Patent: July 26, 1983
    Assignee: Chevron Research Company
Inventors: Louis de Vries, John M. King
  • Patent number: 4272387
Abstract: Antioxidant additives for lubricating oil are prepared by combining an acidic molybdenum compound, a basic nitrogen compound complex and a sulfur source to form a sulfur- and molybdenum-containing composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 28, 1979
Date of Patent: June 9, 1981
    Assignee: Chevron Research Company
Inventors: John M. King, Louis de Vries
  • Patent number: 4269790
Abstract: Hydrocarbylethyl sulfonyl fluorides in which the hydrocarbyl substituent contains at least 3 carbon atoms, can be prepared by reacting 2-mercaptoethanol with chlorine to form chloroethyl sulfonyl chloride which is treated with aqueous potassium fluoride to yield chloroethyl sulfonyl fluoride, followed by treatment with magnesium oxide to yield vinyl sulfonyl fluoride. The vinyl sulfonyl fluoride is adducted to a hydrocarbyl substituent precursor, such as an olefin or halogenated olefin. A representative compound is polyisobutenyl sulfonyl fluoride. The hydrocarbylethyl sulfonamide products for which the hydrocarbylethyl sulfonyl fluorides are intermediates are useful as additives for lubricating oils.

  • Patent number: 4122266
Abstract: Oil-soluble, nitrogen-containing compositions, useful as lubricating oil additives, are provided. These compositions are prepared by reacting: (a) an aryl ester of a hydrocarbylethylsulfonic acid; or (b) a hydrocarbylsulfonyl chloride with a nitrogen-containing compound containing at least one amine hydrogen, i.e., --NH function. Also provided are processes for preparing these compositions and lubricating oil additive concentrates and lubricating oil compositions containing these compositions.

  • Patent number: 4005072
Abstract: Novel compositions are prepared from the thermal decomposition product of azidoformate esters reacting with aliphatic hydrocarbon olefins to form aziridine carbamates, which are then reacted with a polyamine free of primary amino groups and having at least one secondary amino group. These compositions find use as detergents and dispersants in lubricating oils and fuels, and also as emulsifiers.
