  • Publication number: 20090159117
Abstract: A thin film photovoltaic panel and a method for making same including providing a photovoltaic layer on a substrate having at least one edge; a sealant is applied in a liquid form by a pump on a planar surface of the substrate; an adhesive layer is applied between the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein the first adhesive layer is disposed between the photovoltaic layer and at least one of the first and second substrate; and the first and second are secured together to form the thin film photovoltaic panel. The sealant layer includes a desiccant material having a concentration of less than about 20 weight %, which increases the diffusion time lag time for the sealant to reach steady state, thereby extending the duration of the thin film photovoltaic panel.

  • Publication number: 20070062573
Abstract: A solar panel including a front panel; a photovoltaic material layer deposited either directly on the front panel or directly on an anti-reflective coating formed between the front panel and the photovoltaic material layer; a backing panel; and an adhesive layer disposed between and adhering together the photovoltaic material layer and the backing panel, in which the adhesive layer comprises an adhesive composition, the adhesive composition comprising a low MVTR polymer or copolymer and a silane-modified polymer or copolymer. In another embodiment, the solar panel includes module wire openings which are filled by an adhesive composition comprising a low MVTR polymer or copolymer and a silane-modified polymer or copolymer. A method of making the solar panel is provided.

  • Publication number: 20060269713
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a flashing material and methods of making the flashing material. The flashing material generally includes a substrate layer having a first surface and a second surface, wherein the first surface of the substrate is substantially impervious to moisture. An adhesive layer including a plurality of adhesives is deposited over the second surface of the substrate layer. The plurality of adhesives used to form the adhesive can be selected to optimize adhesion to multiple substrates and multiple exposure conditions, which provides for the flashing material to be used in a wide range of materials, surfaces, applications and/or environments. The adhesives that form the adhesive layer may be coextruded or applied sequentially.

  • Publication number: 20060005874
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing thin film photovoltaic panels (TFPP). Instead of utilizing a conventional EVA based adhesive layer, material, the present invention uses an adhesive layer that may be applied in a liquid form and cures rapidly to form the TFFP. In one embodiment, the method provides for applying an adhesive layer in a liquid form along at least a portion of the exposed photovoltaic layer and substrate. In another embodiment, the method provides for applying a first layer adhesive in liquid form along at least one edge of the substrate and second layer of adhesive in liquid form generally bound by the first layer of adhesive. After application of the adhesive layer(s), a force may then be applied to adhere the front panel (or substrate), photovoltaic material layer, adhesive layer and backing panel and the adhesive layer transforms from a liquid to a solid.

  • Patent number: 6571974
Abstract: The invention provides a device for inhibiting unused adhesive paste held within a commercially available dispensing squeeze tube from becoming unwanted hardened solids trapped within the mouth and nozzle of the squeeze tube. The invention provides a knurled knob or knurled cap griping means for pushing-in, pulling-out, and twisting an elongated spike into the mouth of the squeeze tube so that the spike can either minimize the amount of unwanted hardening of the any unused adhesive in the squeeze tube or to penetrate the resulting unwanted hardened solids at or near the mouth of the squeeze tube so as to create a fluid exit route for any remaining unused paste so that the contents are efficiently stored and used. The knurled knob or knurled cap also provides a safe means of preventing the user from being exposed to any unwanted unused adhesive onto the user's fingers and hands.
