  • Patent number: 5086126
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of producing silazane polymers with silicon functional groups attached to the nitrogen. The method comprises treating a silazane polymer containing an N-H bond with an alkyllithium and then reacting the resultant silazane polymer with a chlorosilane. The invention also relates to novel silazane polymers produced by the above process as well as the use of these polymers to form ceramic materials.

  • Patent number: 4772516
Abstract: A method for producing methylpolydisilylazane polymers of reduced chloride content that exhibit no increase in pyrophoricity and exhibit improved shelf life. The methylpolydisilylazane polymers of reduced chloride content are useful in the production of silicon nitride and silSTATEMENT OF GOVERNMENT RIGHTSThe United States Government has rights in this invention pursuant to Contract Number F33615-85-C-5006 awarded by the United States Air Force.

  • Patent number: 4222953
Abstract: Organochlorosilanes are reacted with methanol in contact with a tetraorganophosphonium chloride catalyst to form organosiloxanes and methylchloride. The method avoids significant silicon-carbon bond cleavage and provides good conversion of the chlorine of the chlorosilane to methylchloride while avoiding undesirable dimethylether formation.

  • Patent number: 4108882
Abstract: Methylchlorosilanes are reacted in vapor phase with methyl alcohol (MeOH) in contact with a catalyst comprising a methyl pyridinium chloride or other heterocyclic aromatic methyl quaternary chloride to give the corresponding methyl siloxane and methyl chloride. This method gives extremely low yields of dimethyl ether. For example a mixture of Me.sub.2 SiCl.sub.2 (dimethyldichlorosilane) and MeOH (methylalcohol) vapors is passed through molten methyl pyridinium chloride at 150.degree. C to give cyclic dimethyl polysiloxanes and methyl chloride.
