Abstract: A method is provided of scheduling data packets for transmission from a first terminal (2,UE) to a second terminal (UE,2) over a channel shared with other terminals comprising monitoring a time interval from accepting a packet for transmission and scheduling the packet for transmission. If the transmission is unsuccessful, the packet is scheduled for retransmission within a predetermined time. The predetermined time is selected dependent upon the time interval.

Abstract: In a wireless telecommunications network, a method of sending control information from a first terminal (2,UE) to a second terminal (UE,2) is provided. The method includes at a time both sending control information over a first dedicated channel and sending further control information over at least one further dedicated channel.

Abstract: A wireless telecommunications network comprises a first terminal (2) and a second terminal (UE), the second terminal including a receiving stage and a processor (10) operative to process signals received from the first terminal and to determine received signal quality. The second terminal also includes a transmitter (Tx) operative to send a feedback signal (QI, RAI) dependent upon the received signal quality to the first terminal provided the change in received signal quality is determined as being more than a predetermined amount.

Abstract: In UMTS or EDGE or a similar network, each new call specifies a required QoS on handover (a Seamless Service Descriptor) and an acceptable level of degradation (Service Degradation Descriptor); a call is only accepted into a cell if the QoS requirements in the two descriptors can be met, and if the QoS requirement in the two descriptors of existing calls will not be unacceptably affected.

Abstract: There is disclosed a technique for link adaptation, suitable for a packet switched mobile communication system, in which a command or request to change the mode of a codec in a transmitter is sent only responsive to a desired change in such mode.
