  • Publication number: 20240018564
Abstract: The present invention is related to a fermentative production of retinoids, including retinol or retinyl acetate, comprising cultivation of a retinoid-producing host cell, such as fungal host cell, particularly oleaginous host such as e.g. Yarrowia, in a two-phase culture system in the presence of vegetable oil as second phase. The retinoids present in the vegetable oil can be used without further isolation or purification steps as active ingredients in the food, feed, pharma or cosmetic industry.

  • Publication number: 20230407344
Abstract: The present invention is related to fermentative production of isoprenoids, comprising cultivation of a suitable host cell, such as fungal host cell, particularly oleaginous host cell, in an improved two-phase culture system.
    Type: Application
    Filed: November 1, 2021
    Publication date: December 21, 2023
Inventors: Peter Louis HOUSTON, Valmik Kanubhai VYAS
  • Publication number: 20230265443
Abstract: The present invention is related to a novel process for production of retinyl acetate in a host cell, particularly oleaginous yeast such as e.g. Yarrowia, growing on triglyceride oils, such as e.g. vegetable oil, wherein the host cell exhibits modified lipase activity in such a way that conversion of retinol into fatty acid retinyl esters (FAREs) is reduced or abolished. Such process is especially useful in a biotechnological process for production of vitamin A.

  • Patent number: 11671268
Abstract: This invention provides a secure method for sending data—private, arrival-time messaging. Private, arrival-time messaging is based on classical physics and not quantum mechanics. It insures a private language for communicators with privately-synchronized clocks. In this method, there is no encrypted message available to an eavesdropper. A private message is mapped onto a time measurement known only to an intended sender and an intended receiver such that a third party knowing only the arrival time of the message and not the time measurement can never know the private message.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: June 6, 2023
Assignee: University of Louisiana at Lafayette
    Inventor: Louis Houston
  • Publication number: 20230049760
Abstract: The present invention is related to a retinoid-producing host cell, particularly oleaginous yeast, modified such that the percentage of retinyl acetate based on the total retinoids produced by such host cell is increased during fermentation using triglyceride oils, like for example vegetable oil, as carbon source, wherein the activity of certain endogenous hydrolases or transferases involved in undesired conversions of retinol or retinol acetate is reduced or abolished. Particularly, such modified host cell might be useful in a biotechnological process for production of vitamin A.

  • Publication number: 20220356503
Abstract: The present invention is related to a method for increasing the trans-specificity of a beta-carotene oxidase (BCO), particularly insect BCO, to be used in the production of vitamin A aldehyde (retinal) from conversion of beta-carotene, with at least about 75 to 100% of retinal in the trans-isoform.

  • Patent number: 11332724
Abstract: The present invention provides genetically engineered host organisms capable of producing terpenoids. The present invention also relates terpenoids obtained from such genetically engineered organisms. Examples of the produced terpenoids include carotenoids, ionones, abienol, and other isoprenoid derived compounds. In addition, the invention relates to a methods of for the preparation of terpenoids using such a genetically engineered organism.
