Louis J. Rassey has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 5083530
Abstract: An opposed piston engine includes at least one pair of pistons synchronously reciprocatingly mounted in a hollow cylinder. At least one projection is formed on the face of one piston, while a corresponding recess is formed on the face of the other piston, the recess being dimensioned to at least partly and preferably substantially receive the projection in the recess, upon reciprocation of the pistons. The piston construction is particularly advantageous in opposed cylinder diesel engines, and can eliminate the need for a glow plug to initiate combustion in even a cold engine.

  • Patent number: 4960086
Abstract: An improved rotary valve construction is provided for use in conjunction with an internal combustion engine of the type having a housing and at least one piston member reciprocally received within a cylinder formed in the housing. In the conventional fashion, fuel intake passage means formed within the housing communicate a combustible fuel mixture to the cylinder while, likewise, exhaust passage means formed in the engine housing expel exhaust gases from the cylinder. A first and second cylindrical valve member, each having a diametric throughbore, are rotatably mounted in the intake passage means and exhaust passage means, respectively. The valve members are rotatably driven in synchronism with the reciprocation of the piston in the cylinder to thereby open the intake and exhaust passage means via the valve member diametric bore at predetermined rotational positions of the valve members.

  • Patent number: 4469070
Abstract: A fuel control valve for limiting the flow of fuel to an internal combustion engine having fuel injector means. A fuel control valve has a series of orifices in a fuel control block and a cam located in the block and communicating with a fuel pump for an internal combustion engine. The cam is rotatably movable in the control block so as to increase and decrease the cross-sectional flow area for the fuel to the engine by communicating with one or more fuel orifices or jets in the fuel control block. The cam is mechanically connected to the accelerator of the engine so that fuel supply to the stacks leading to the cylinders of the engine is directly controlled according to the operation of the accelerator pedal. In this way, the fuel flow and pressure to the fuel injector is immediately limited when the operator releases the accelerator.

  • Patent number: 4244338
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is provided having a housing with a pair of crankshafts rotatably mounted within the housing in a spaced and parallel relationship. One or more throughbores, forming the cylinder for the engine, are provided in the housing between the crankshafts and slidably receive a pair of piston members therein and in a facing relationship, the piston members being connected to their respective crankshafts by connecting rods in the usual manner. A fuel inlet passageway is provided in the housing to supply a fuel air mixture to each cylinder and between the piston members while, similarly, an exhaust passage is provided in the housing to permit the exhaust fumes to be expelled from each cylinder. An inlet rotary valve is positioned within the inlet passageway and includes at least one diametric throughport for selectively opening and closing the inlet passageway in dependence upon the rotational position of the inlet valve.

  • Patent number: 4198947
Abstract: A modular internal combustion engine is provided in which a single crankcase can be adapted to a plurality of different types of engine configurations. The crankcase is open at its top so that each upper side edge of the crankcase forms a mounting flange while a crankshaft is rotatably carried by the crankcase. Block members and adapter members are provided and each includes a mounting flange formed along each longitudinal side. All of the mounting flanges are substantially identical to each other so that any one mounting flange can be detachably secured to another mounting flange. Thus to construct the engine, one mounting flange of either the block or adapter member is attached to one crankcase mounting flange while one mounting flange on the other member is attached to the other crankcase mounting flange. In addition, the remaining mounting flanges on the block and adapter members register with each other and are secured together.
