  • Publication number: 20130274935
Abstract: A method is provided for efficiently managing energy consumption using stored energy. The method accepts input energy (e.g., from a power utility) and maintains a record of energy consumption. An energy consumption peak is predicted in response to analyzing the record of energy consumption, and the input energy is augmented with stored energy during the predicted energy consumption peaks. More explicitly, a peak shaving value is selected based on a fraction of the predicted energy consumption peak, and the stored energy is used when energy consumption exceeds the peak shaving value. In one aspect, after a determination is made to use stored energy, it is simply used while it is available. Otherwise, it is supplied based upon an analysis of a predicted value of the stored energy.

  • Publication number: 20130188734
Abstract: An electronic device configured for high throughput binarization mode is described. The electronic device includes a processor and instructions stored in memory that is in electronic communication with the processor. The electronic device obtains a block of transformed and quantized coefficients (TCQs). The electronic device determines whether a high throughput binarization mode condition is met. If the condition is met, the electronic device uses the high throughput binarization mode to process the block. If the condition is not met, the electronic device does not use the high throughput binarization mode to process the block. The electronic device transmits the generated first or second bitstream to a decoder.

  • Patent number: 8482677
Abstract: A display device includes power management by including a first input suitable to receive electrical power from an outlet for providing power for the operation of the display device. The display device includes a second input, separate from the first input, suitable to receive electrical power from an external battery source for providing power for the operation of the display device. The display device includes an internal battery source enclosed within the display device suitable for providing power for the operation of the display device. A source select is enclosed within the display device that selects power from at least one of the first input, the second input, and the internal battery for providing power for the operation of the display device. A processor receives video content from a video source and selectively modifies a backlight of the display device based upon the power source selected by the source select in such a manner as to reduce the power consumption of the display device.

  • Publication number: 20130114729
Abstract: A decoder that decodes video receives a bitstream containing quantized coefficient level values representative of a block of video representative of a plurality of pixels and a quantization parameter related to the block of video.
