  • Patent number: 4218857
Abstract: A sheet metal starter shingle and a roof covering employing the starter shingle. The starter shingle is five sided with a first side engaging with the eave edge of a roof, two sides perpendicular to the first side, and two other sides angled inwardly from the perpendicular sides to meet at a peak opposite the first side. All the sides have means for engaging with adjacent starter shingle, roofing shingles or the roof eave edge. The roof covering employing the starter shingle also employs rectangular, sheet metal roofing shingles each having a length twice its width, and a width equal to one of the angled sides of the starter shingle. A method for laying the roof covering is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4193242
Abstract: A roofing system of the batten type using sheet metal components only. The battens are formed by folding the side edge portions of adjacent pan sections to form securing channels and upstanding side walls. The side walls are folded inwardly away from the securing channels and then downwardly to form downwardly projecting lips spaced inwardly and intermediate of the height of the side walls and a closure cap is slidable along the top edges of the side walls and in engagement with the downwardly projecting lips of adjacent pan sections to bridge and seal the gap formed between the adjacent side walls above the abutting securing channels, the securing channels being held down on the underlying roof structure by fastening screws.

  • Patent number: 4185436
Abstract: A sheet metal starter shingle and a sheet metal roof covering employing the starter shingles. The starter shingle has an upwardly sloping top edge upon which a plurality of rectangular sheet metal roofing shingles can be mounted in a row. • Patent number: 4138935
Abstract: A ventilator for use with sheet metal roofing. The sheet metal panels covering the roof are lap-joined at the ridge of the roof and a ventilator opening is cut in the overlapped end portions of the sheet metal panels and in the underlying roof structure on either side of the ridge of the roof. The ventilator consists of a base member which is secured to the roof and a cover member which fits over the base member, both members being formed from sheet metal panels. The sheet metal panel from which the base member is formed has a centrally located cut-out conforming to the size of the opening in the roof structure and has its side edge portions folded upwards and inwards upon themselves to form flanges, and are further folded upwards at right angles to the flanges to form upstanding side walls.
