  • Publication number: 20070297493
Abstract: A receiver comprises a number of fingers, each finger providing symbols associated with a path of a received multipath signal, and a maximal ratio combiner (MRC) that activates to combine the symbols when the symbols are available. In an illustrative embodiment a receiver is a CDMA receiver and comprises a number of fingers, an interface, and an MRC. Each finger provides symbols asociated with a path of a received multipath signal for the various channels conveyed therein, the interface provides an indiction when symbols from the fingers are ready for processing to the MRC, which then activates to combine those symbols from the fingers that are asociated with the same channel. Illustratively, the interface includes a priority encoder for selecting different channels for processing by the MRC. Further, the MRC can be configured to operate with a clock rate that is greater than a chip rate.

  • Publication number: 20070198639
Abstract: A system and method for allowing users to associate various e-mails within at least one of the user's mailboxes under a common discussion topic or “thread” for organizational purposes. This user-controlled organization may be carried out regardless if the e-mails which are desired to be associated are from different senders and/or have different subject headings. An e-mail message may be associated to/designated under a user-defined discussion topic or associated to another e-mail. At the user's discretion, information about the e-mail's associated discussion topic and/or associated e-mails may be stored and kept locally with the user's mailbox, or alternatively, information about the e-mail's associations may be transmitted when that e-mail is sent to a recipient user.

  • Publication number: 20070135217
Abstract: Gaming capabilities to users at wireless hotspots wherein users can save their gaming characters and transporting them for play and development in, e.g., future games at other hotspots independent of the original game in which the character was saved. A gaming server is provided at a WLAN, wherein the user logs onto the hotspot and accesses the gaming server to select and play a game, wherein the user is represented by a character in the game. At any desired point in the game, the user may save the character onto a transportable medium, e.g., a mobile device, floppy disk, CD, etc. The user may play a future game using the saved character at, e.g., different hotspots against different users.

  • Publication number: 20070081579
Abstract: A code-tracking system includes a loop filter, which receives an early/late error signal and outputs a loop filter error signal. An error scaling device receives the loop filter error representing an update and provides a code tracking adjustment signal. A controller monitors a frequency of updates and/or a number of same direction updates and provides a filter coefficient in accordance with the frequency of updates and/or the number of same direction updates.

  • Publication number: 20060193305
Abstract: A Universal Mobile Telephone System (UMTS) receiver performs slot synchronization using a received primary synchronization channel (PSCH). Subsequent to completion of slot synchronization, the UMTS receiver performs frame synchronization using a received secondary synchronization channel (SSCH) in such a way that the UMTS receiver uses the received primary synchronization channel (PSCH) to detect a change in channel conditions.

  • Publication number: 20060188009
Abstract: A Universal Mobile Telephone System (UMTS) receiver performs frame synchronization in accordance with a soft decision technique. Illustratively, the UMTS receiver first forms a matrix of correlation peak values (350) from at least one received frame, each row of the matrix representing a possible SSCH code and each column of the matrix representing a slot position of an SCH frame. The UMTS receiver then forms a metric (355) for each cyclic shift of each one of 64 possible scrambling code groups from the matrix of correlation peak values and identifies the metric with the highest value (360). Having identified the highest metric value (360), the UMTS receiver uses the scrambling code group (365) and offset associated thereto (370) to complete frame synchronization.

  • Publication number: 20050257122
Abstract: There is provided a method of diversity error control coding for a system having variable-length packets that carry prioritized data. High priority packets in a data sequence are replicated to form virtual replications. Parity symbols are generated from the data sequence and from the virtual replications, and tag information is generated that indicates a number of the virtual replications used to generate the parity symbols, for subsequent transmission of only the data sequence, the parity symbols, and the tag information to reconstruct the data sequence.

  • Publication number: 20050226139
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments relate to exploiting circuitry that exists in a typical Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) receiver to find the phase of a complex number corresponding to an input signal without implementing additional costly circuitry or employing a relatively slow inverse tangent look-up table. The magnitude of the complex number is normalized and processed through a closed loop to produce an output proportional to the phase of the complex number.
