Abstract: The embodiments described herein relates to systems, methods and apparatuses for facilitating gesture-based control of an electronic device for displaying medical information. According to some aspects, there is provided a gesture recognition apparatus comprising at least one processor configured receive image data and depth data from at least one camera; extract at least one gesture from the image data and the depth data that is indicative of an activity of an operator within a volume of recognition, the volume of recognition being indicative of a sterile space proximate to the operator; generate at least one command that is compatible with the at least one electronic device based on the extracted at least one gesture; and provide the at least one compatible command to at least one electronic device as an input command.
