Abstract: Medical guidelines are generated based on the history of the medical records for a large patient population, which includes creating a patient trajectory graph from the records including nodes and edges by automatically clustering patients based on relevant the patients' features included in their medical records. The nodes are scored based on the time patients remain with the nodes and desirability of any associated outcomes, resulting in edge scores derived from the scores of the edge-connected nodes. Top ranked interventions obtained from the edge scores that evaluates whether a transition from one node to another is better or worse are included in the generated medical guidelines. Additionally, effect sizes and confidence intervals of medical treatments for a pre-defined patient population are estimated by using the patients' medical records and dividing the population in an exposed and non-exposed group. Estimates are based on match choices between exposed and non-exposed patients.

Abstract: A method to facilitate a language independent search includes displaying a search attribute, including an attribute name and a selection of attribute values, to a user and receiving from the user a search attribute value selection corresponding to the attribute name. Then, the attribute name and attribute value selection are translated into language independent symbols, such as numbers. The numbers are used in a search of a sellers item listings table to select item listings with attribute values that match the search attribute values selected by the user.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for using near-full bloom filters for efficiently identifying hash slices in which the deviation between replicas is sufficient to justify remedial measures. Techniques are also described for adjusting the size of slices and the size of the bloom filters, so that the bloom-filter-to-bloom-filter comparison serves as an accurate indicator of the degree to which the contents of the slices of a slice pair have deviated. Slice size may vary from slice pair to slice pair, so that relatively sparsely populated portions of the ring (access key ranges into which fewer chunks fall) are represented by relatively larger slices, while relatively densely populated portions of the ring (access key ranges into which more chunks fall) are represented by relatively smaller slices.

The system receives a plurality of queries that are used to search a database, the plurality of queries respectively including a string of text that includes at least one keyword. Next, the system determines a subset of most popular queries from the plurality of queries. Next, the system applies a first plurality of rules to a first most popular query in the subset of most popular queries to identify a second plurality of rules that respectively identify at least one matching keyword in the first most popular query. Next, the system counts the first plurality of rules to determine a total quantity of rules and counts the second plurality of rules to determine a second quantity of rules. Next, the system determines a percentage of coverage for the first most popular query, the percentage of coverage based on the total quantity of rules and the second quantity of rules.

The system includes a query controller module to receive the data search request that includes constraints; a reduced constraint builder module to formulate a plurality of search definitions that are formulated to exclude at least one constraint; and a search engine to perform searches of a data source to generate search results and to utilize the search results to calculate counts of data items that respectively correspond to the search definitions. The query controller module communicates the counts of data items and the corresponding search definitions to a client machine. Each of the search definitions is formulated to include a constraint set.

Next, the system generates a start number and a step number based on the data identifier. The system locates a first storage device utilizing the start number and, if the first storage device is available, the system reads the data item from the first storage device. However, if the first storage device is unavailable, the system utilizes the step number and the start number to compute a backup number that is utilized to locate a second storage device. If the second storage device is available, the system reads the data item from the second storage device.

Abstract: A memory monitoring system equips a computer program for monitoring its own memory accesses. The system employs special values, called "VALUEA" and "VALUEB," stored in the memory locations and a table of write tags, each preferably a single-bit flag corresponding to a different one of the memory's locations. If the write tag is not set for a particular memory location, VALUEA within that location indicates that it is unallocated, and VALUEB indicates that it is allocated and not initialized. The write tags can be set to indicate that the corresponding memory location contains written data. The program so equipped can monitor each memory access, including, e.g., allocation, write, read, and memory freeing operations, using the combination of the location contents and the write tag table to determine valid memory operations and to signal memory access violations. Counters can be provided to track the number of valid accesses of particular types and/or of valid accesses to particular locations.
