Publication number: 20120213328Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems for compressing signals yielded from a CT examination are provided. The signals are encoded, or remapped, into a format in which the photon noise of the signals are substantially constant over a dynamic range while the signals are in a projection space domain. That is, the signals are encoded into a format in which the standard deviation of the photon noise does not change based upon the number of photons detected. Once remapped into such a format, the noise entropy of the signals may be set to a predetermined level (e.g., a minimum value that preserves the information in the signals). The signals may then be compressed using a compression technique. In one embodiment, the compression can reduce the amount of data comprised within the signals by a factor of 2.5 or more relative to an analog, linear formatted, signal that was generated by a pixel of the detector array.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2009Publication date: August 23, 2012Inventors: Enrico Dolazza, Louis Poulo, Aleksander Roshi

Patent number: 5799610Abstract: A litter box assembly for pets includes two identical, stackable litter boxes each having a bottom with a pattern of openings and pointed, raised projections. A track extends around the bottom of each box to hold a plate with defines mating apertures and slides back and forth in the track to, respectively, align the openings and close off the openings. A handle on each box attaches to the plate and may be moved to the open position to allow unclumped litter to flow into the box stacked below. The clumped waste is held off the bottom of the box on the raised projections for disposal by dumping. The lower box containing the filtered litter is moved to the top position of the stack to be ready for use.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1996Date of Patent: September 1, 1998Inventor: Louis Poulos

Patent number: 5279314Abstract: A light electric dental flosser with a rechargeable battery compartment includes a motor casing, interchangeably individualized head units, and disposable plastic floss tips that snap mount within the hinged end of the head unit. The floss tips exhibit bidirectional flossing motion provided from a motion translation system including an eccentric cam, a yoke, and an output shaft with a cam follower mechanism that follows a generally Z-shaped tracking surface with a vertical track component and a horizontal track component enabled by the yoke to complete the resulting "Z" movement. The floss tips have a molded-in filament and are molded from a shock absorbing substance which absorbs the vertical component of the "Z" shaped motion upon the application of pressure to the filament thereby outputting horizontal motion until the filament passes through the contact area between two teeth.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1991Date of Patent: January 18, 1994Assignee: Advanced Dental Research CorporationInventors: Louis Poulos, Leonard L. Patent number: 4490682Abstract: An instrumentation amplifier having automatic offset error adjustment to null unwanted DC output signals. The DC gain of the instrumentation amplifier is first increased by reducing the internal negative feedback which increases the amplitude of unwanted DC signals; thereafter, an offset correction signal is provided to reduce the unwanted DC signals. The normal operating DC gain is restored and the unwanted DC output signal is further reduced.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1981Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Assignee: Analogic CorporationInventor: Louis Poulo

Patent number: 4206417Abstract: A parametric audio equalizer has linear frequency response controls for bass, middle and treble frequency ranges arranged in a line according to the frequency ranges, and linear amplitude controls arranged perpendicularly to the corresponding frequency response selection controls, with a bandwidth selector for the middle range located below the middle range amplitude control. Simple graphic indicia of frequency responses appear near the corresponding controls. A summing circuit combines the input signal with signals on + and - inputs coupled to a variable Q and frequency bandpass filter.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1978Date of Patent: June 3, 1980Assignee: Bose CorporationInventor: Louis Poulo
