  • Patent number: 10448955
Abstract: The present invention relates to substantially compressible, spherical porous embolization particles, including methods of making and using the particles. Methods of using the particles include methods of embolization, in which at least one particle can be positioned in a target area of a blood vessel. The particles can also include interior pores that extend to the surface of the particles. Further, the invention relates to embolization delivery systems for the introduction of the particle into the vascular luer.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: October 22, 2019
    Assignee: BIOSPHERE MEDICAL, INC.
Inventors: Louis R. Matson, Gerald R. McNamara, Donald K. Brandom
  • Patent number: 6911219
Abstract: This relates to partially acetalized polyvinyl alcohol embolization particles suitable for implanting in the human body, to compositions containing those particles, and to methods of making and using them.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 25, 2002
Date of Patent: June 28, 2005
    Assignee: Surgica Corporation
Inventors: Louis R. Matson, Donald K. Brandom
  • Publication number: 20040158318
Abstract: Disclosed are methods of reducing undesired tissue growth adjacent to, upon, or within surgical implants. Surgical implants, especially endoprosthetic implants, are rendered bioactively suppressant by the presence of a galvanically releasable silver component and a metal more noble than silver such as gold, platinum, or rhodium, deposited on a surface of the implant, when contacted with a physiologic electrolyte, which is generally deposited as a surface coating, which provides in vivo a sustained release of silver ions in a concentration effective to reduce undesired tissue growth, but insufficient to cause serious damage to connective tissue.
    Type: Application
    Filed: January 26, 2004
    Publication date: August 12, 2004
    Applicant: Surgica Corporation.

Surgical implants, especially endoprosthetic implants, are rendered bioactively suppressant by the presence of a galvanically releasable silver component and a metal more noble than silver such as gold, platinum, or rhodium, deposited on a surface of the implant, when contacted with a physiologic electrotyte, which is generally deposited as a surface coating, which provides in vivo a sustained release of silver ions in a concentration effective to reduce undesired tissue growth, but insufficient to cause serious damage to connective tissue.
