    Abstract: A printing method and apparatus (100) for pre-exposing a digital watermark along a length of photosensitive medium at the time of manufacture is disclosed. The printing apparatus has an illumination source (60) for providing an exposure illumination, first and second LCD spatial light modulators (90a, 90b) for modulating the exposure illumination to form first and second exposure patterns according to image data, combining optics providing a single output path for directing both first and second exposure patterns onto the photosensitive medium and transport means for providing, during exposure, lengthwise displacement of the photosensitive medium with respect to the output path. The first and second exposure patterns form, lengthwise along the photosensitive medium, a latent image with modulated stripes having a predetermined intensity corresponding to the exposure patterns.

A monocentric arrangement of optical components images the left and right scanning ball lens pupil at the corresponding left and right viewing pupil (14) of the observer (12) and essentially provides a single center of curvature for projection components.

    Abstract: A queue based technique for handling proof requests in a direct digital color proofing (DDCP) system in a manner which substantially increases the throughput of proof images provided by the system while reducing needed operator interaction with the system. Specifically, proof requests are constructed to contain only parameter values that are necessary for the DDCP system to generate each proof and filename(s) of the accompanying image data therefor, but not the image data itself. These requests are queued in a proof request queue within a raster image processor (RIP) in the DDCP system and sequentially processed thereby on generally a first-in first-out basis. By restricting the requests to parameter values and an accompanying filename(s), a substantial number of these requests can be queued and sequentially processed by the RIP and printed by a proofing engine in the DDCP system without substantial operator intervention.
