  • Publication number: 20070213086
Abstract: An automated technique for configuring a neighbor set for a base station (32) includes initializing the neighbor set based upon reported measurements from a mobile station (22). In a disclosed example, a newly installed base station (32) transmits a cell information list to a mobile station (22) requesting measurement reports regarding a plurality of candidate base station identifiers. Based upon the reported measurements, a determination is made regarding which of the base stations should be included in the neighbor set for the base station (32). A disclosed example includes the capability of automatically initializing the neighbor set and automatically updating the set. Disclosed examples include utilizing information from a plurality of mobile stations.

  • Publication number: 20070213066
Abstract: A wireless communication system (20) allows for using base station router devices (30, 32) for in building communications using a mobile station (22). Automatically configuring a definition code such as primary scrambling codes or pseudo random noise offsets of the base station router devices (30, 32) facilitates minimizing or avoiding false handovers between a macrocell base station (24) and one of the base station router devices (30, 32). In a disclosed example, a controller (26) such as a radio network controller communicates with at least one of the base station router devices (30, 32) for automatically changing a definition code used by such a device to avoid correspondence between definition codes within a selected range.

  • Publication number: 20070207811
Abstract: A method for locating a mobile device in a wireless communications system comprised of a plurality of base stations is provided. The method comprises associating the mobile device with a first base station of the plurality of base stations. Thereafter, a paging signal is delivered from a subset of base stations associated with the first base station to the mobile device. The subset of base stations may correspond to a network active set of base stations associated with the mobile device. Thereafter, when a signal from one of the base stations in the subset of base stations is received, indicating that the mobile device responded to the paging signal from the one base station, then the mobile device is located and may be associated with the one base station for future paging attempts.

  • Publication number: 20070191054
Abstract: In one aspect of the present invention, a method for controlling a communications session with a mobile device is provided. The method comprises selecting a plurality of base stations, where at least a portion of the base stations are adapted to operate as a secondary agent, and wherein the secondary agent is capable of communicating with a mobile device. Substantially similar data is then delivered to a plurality of the secondary agents, and a first one of the secondary agents is selected as a first serving secondary agent to communicate with the mobile device. The first serving secondary agent transfers the data to the mobile device during the communications session.

  • Publication number: 20070147337
Abstract: A method of synchronizing with an uplink channel and a method of determining a propagation delay in a wireless communications system are provided. In the example method of synchronizing, a propagation delay between a target base station and a mobile station is calculated. Then, the calculated propagation delay is sent to the target base station. In the example method of determining a propagation delay, a first signal is received indicating a first measured chip offset between a downlink channel of a serving base station and a pilot signal of the target base station. A second signal indicating a second measured chip offset between an uplink channel of the mobile station and a pilot signal of the target base station is then received. A propagation delay between the target base station and the mobile station is calculated based at least in part on the first and second measured chip offsets.

  • Publication number: 20070076608
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for providing radio access in a communication system by inter-working between at least two packet-based networks, such as heterogeneous cellular networks including a cellular network and an Internet Protocol (IP)-based wireless data network. The method includes enabling a packet routing path across the cellular and wireless data networks to provide a quality of service metric and an indication for mobility information associated with a user of a mobile device. The method further comprises transferring the quality of service metric and the indication for mobility information on the packet routing path in response to a service request across the networks. To provide wireless radio access, an IP-based communication system may use a wireless router, such as a base station router (BSR) and an inter-working unit.

  • Publication number: 20070071006
Abstract: A technique for delivering communications services to a large number of users employing relatively inexpensive, widely available handsets. More particularly, the technique utilizes a network apparatus that supports individual access to a community of users and supports access to a wireless communications system (e.g., any well-known Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) wireless network). That is, the communications hub functions similar to a communications switch with a number users employing inexpensive handsets (e.g., well-known 900 MHz cordless telephones) on one side and the functionality of a mobile terminal, and CDMA interconnection, on the other side. Therefore, the users (i.e., subscribers) employ relatively inexpensive, widely available handsets, in conjunction with the network apparatus, to access a wireless communications network and the associated communications services offered from the wireless service provider.

  • Publication number: 20060167785
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for using a bidding strategy to select a bid price for at least one of goods and services in an auction of wireless communication access requests within a marketplace of sellers and buyers to obtain a profit gain in that auction. A communications system may include a broker to select a bid price in response to a service request from a mobile communication device to an operator including a bidding algorithm for bidding a price in an auction. At an operator, a bidding algorithm, in accordance with one embodiment, may provide or use a robust, adaptive bidding strategy that may maximize the profit gain in a bidding process by assuming one of at least two forms for a probability of winning as a function of a bid price and through the use of a set of mixed strategies.

  • Publication number: 20060135118
Abstract: A method is provided of providing a service to a user terminal. According to this method, a first network agrees with the user terminal to provide the service at a certain charge rate, then starts to provide the service. Subsequently at least one other network is invited by the first network to provide the service. The first network receives at least one offer from the other networks to provide the service to the user terminal. The first network then accepts one of the offers, such that the one of said other networks thereafter provides the service and charges the user terminal without the first network being involved.
