  • Patent number: 6216362
Abstract: The disclosure provides an apparatus for controlling the rate of heat transfer from as-cast railroad wheels after their removal from the mold utilizing a plurality of vertically adjustable caps with a cap positioned over each wheel to control the rate of heat transfer therefrom as it is transported to a successive operation, each cap having a generally symmetrical shape to inhibit or reduce deflection of radiant energy from the wheel, and the disclosure also provides a method for controlling the rate of heat transfer including a control system to provide the requisite displacement of each cap from the associated wheel to control cooling of the wheel prior to its subsequent operation.

  • Patent number: 6081545
Abstract: An arc furnace fume collection system has a plurality of duct lines leading to a common duct that leads to a baghouse for filtering dust. The supplemental duct lines have high pressure fans, blowers, or compressors and join one of the other duct lines through a nozzle. The nozzle connection acts as a venturi to supplement the pulling power of a common exhaust fan downstream of the baghouse filter.

  • Patent number: 6058622
Abstract: The present invention relates to the wetting or providing moisture throughout a container of a powdery dry material such as an emission control baghouse dust. A collection hopper container is provided which usually comprises a box like structure with a sealable cover or top. A supply of low-pressure steam is provided to a plurality of conduits that extent through the cover and extend downwardly into the collected powdery material. By the injection of low-pressure steam through the plurality of conduits and outwardly into the powdery material through openings in the conduits, moisture is provided throughout the powdery material to lessen the dusty nature of the material to enable further processing to be accomplished more readily.

  • Patent number: 4164141
Abstract: An improved apparatus for determining the Brinell hardness of railway vehicle wheels comprising a receiving means to accept and retain the wheel in a substantially vertical position; an elevator to raise and lower the receiving means in a substantially vertical plane; a polishing attachment to polish at least a portion of the wheel being held by the receiving means; and a Brinell testing device to determine the hardness of the wheel at one or more points which have previously been polished by the polishing attachment.
